Ruddington Roadworks Return

After a ‘lull’ over the Christmas and New Year period, the road diggers will be out and about again in Ruddington over the coming weeks. Work by Severn Trent originally scheduled to take place at one of our busiest junctions last Sunday only (9th January) will now be taking place over two weekends this month. Thankfully this water connection work – at the crossroads of Loughborough, Kirk Lane and Flawforth Avenue – is still scheduled just on Sundays: the 16th and 23rd January. This means the disruption for motorists should be kept…

Symmetry for Ruddington’s High Street

For the past couple of years there have been rather more businesses on one side of Ruddington’s main shopping street than the other, thanks to one or two departing traders and some major shop redevelopment work at the former Barclay & Cook store. Now that the last vacant shop unit on the eastern side of High Street is filled – the one previously occupied by Nottingham Building Society – we will get some ‘Symmetry’: not least because that’s the name of the Chiropractic business which will be starting there soon,…

Two Nottingham postcodes occupied spaces one and two on their highest average yield locations in England, with NG7 giving 11.3% and NG1 giving 11.1% on average. Meanwhile, the same newspaper reports that banks are doing all they can to attract landlords in 2022 by offering low interest rates on buy-to-let mortgages (Mortgage Works, Nationwide’s buy-to-let arm, has a two-year…

Trio Arrested Following Ruddington Van Theft

Three suspected thieves have been caught, and two stolen vehicles recovered, after what Nottinghamshire Police are calling “fantastic police teamwork”. Members of the force’s city knife crime team were said to be on proactive patrol when they were alerted to a report of a van stolen from an address here in Ruddington. Searches were carried out after the van was later spotted in the Broxtowe Estate area of Nottingham. ‘Ruddy Kind Acts’ Initiative Launches

For the past few Christmases, residents of Ruddington have benefitted from ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ – where a mystery benefactor and his helpers have posted hundreds of envelopes marked ‘R.A.K’, each containing £100 in cash to lucky local recipients in our village, Clifton and Silverdale. Some villagers even had a wad of money thrust at them whilst walking down the street! After the identity of the generous individual behind it was finally revealed in December 2021, it inspired creatives from the ‘Handmade in Rudd’ group to launch their own community initiative – dubbed ‘Ruddy Kind…

Reported Crime Continues to Rise

The latest figures from Rushcliffe Police show there was another increase in incidents recorded by officers in Ruddington last month. Whilst numbers are still relatively low, there were 33% more offences logged for our village in December 2021 than the month before. Perhaps the most concerning involves a 12 year old child reportedly being bitten by “a large grey dog” on Vicarage Park – with police still trying to trace this potentially dangerous animal and its owner. Historically our former Sainsbury’s store on Dutton’s Hill was targeted frequently by shoplifters…

New Year Roadworks at Manor Park

During 2021 villagers and visitors suffered unprecedented and disruptive roadworks in Ruddington – many of them to facilitate the construction of four major new housing developments on our former Green Belt. Thankfully, so far, things are looking rather quieter to start 2022. The first major highway work this month is for Severn Trent to dig up Loughborough Road in two places – firstly on a Sunday* and then on a Thursday** – with potentially disruptive temporary traffic lights in use during both. More significant for those who live on Manor Park, or…
