Countdown to Christmas in Ruddington

Whilst some of Ruddington’s main Christmas celebrations have already been and gone, residents and visitors can still look forward to more festive fun and activities over the holiday period. Continuing caution about Coronavirus – particularly the new Omicron variant – has led to some organisers and venues asking people to carry out a COVID-19 lateral flow test before mingling with others, and to wear face coverings according to the Government’s new ‘Plan B’ rules. Booking systems have also been introduced in some places to keep down numbers during the busiest…

Members of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee are meeting at County Hall this Monday (13th December 2021) to wade through a seventy page document which includes a ‘Basic Need Programme of School Expansion’. Up until now, the focus has been on a lack of secondary school places for village children who’ve previously…

Santa’s Tours of Ruddington

After travel restrictions due to COVID-19 last year thwarted Santa’s plans to do his usual pre-Christmas visit to our village, Father Christmas has announced he will be doing two tours of Ruddington this year – starting TODAY! As last year, from 11am to 5pm this Friday (December 10th) a giant, inflatable Santa has replaced the big man in the Rushcliffe Rotary Club‘s fundraising sleigh on Church Street, near the Co-op (top photo), for a static collection. However, Father Christmas himself will then arrive to tour the residential streets of Ruddington – waving…

Happy New Year from Team Benwell Daykin

The last twelve months have seen unprecedented times for many of us – and estate agents are no different says Benwell Daykin. This year has seen the property market flourish like never before. A continued increase in house prices and demand far outstripping that of supply are considered to be the main reasons for the continued robust price growth. Average UK house prices defied expectations and continued to climb over the last few months despite the phasing out of the government’s stamp duty holiday at the end of September. Nationwide,…

Sewage Leak Closes James Peacock School

Pupils who attend Ruddington’s Infant and Nursery School have themselves at home unexpectedly today – after a flood of raw sewage affected the playground and the area around the main entrance. The incident at James Peacock School in Manor Park happened just as the school day was finishing yesterday (Monday December 6th) and was apparently caused by a sewage inspection cover springing a leak. It led to the cancellation of all classes today – with some parents and guardians having to hastily re-arrange their schedules to look after their children instead. A…

Ruddington’s Festive Roadworks

This year villagers and visitors have suffered unprecedented and disruptive roadworks in Ruddington – many of them to facilitate the construction of four major new housing developments on our former village Green Belt. Thankfully things are looking much quieter into the new year. Whilst, of course, Santa and his reindeer can fly over any traffic queues or road closures, no significant Christmas disruption is planned for we terrestrial drivers, either! The current Wilford Road work by BT is off-peak only. The three-way traffic lights originally planned by Severn Trent for…

However, this is still significantly lower than in some previous months, and none of the offences was very serious. They include the previously reported breaking of two windows at Gino’s Ristorante on Church Street, two drive-offs from the…
