Santa’s Tours of Ruddington

After travel restrictions due to COVID-19 last year thwarted Santa’s plans to do his usual pre-Christmas visit to our village, Father Christmas has announced he will be doing two tours of Ruddington this year – starting TODAY!

As last year, from 11am to 5pm this Friday (December 10th) a giant, inflatable Santa has replaced the big man in the Rushcliffe Rotary Club‘s fundraising sleigh on Church Street, near the Co-op (top photo), for a static collection. However, Father Christmas himself will then arrive to tour the residential streets of Ruddington – waving to local children as he goes – something he was unable to do in 2020.

A spokesperson says: “The first responsibility of the Club is to the safety of our members, volunteers and the public, so no door-to-door collections will be made. However, we’ll continue the tradition of the sleigh parading round our streets, with two tours of the village, when darkness falls, on Friday 10th December and Tuesday 21st December.”

Friday 10th December – Santa’s tour will start outside the Co-op and is planned to include Distillery Street, Musters Road, Barleylands, Leys Road, Moor Lane, Elms Park and Elms Close.

Tuesday 21st December – Santa’s tour is planned to include the Churchill Drive Estate, Camelot Street, Brookside, Clifton Road, Packman Drive and Rufford Road.

Village youngsters can watch the sleigh’s progress using the SleighTracker app available from the Google or Apple app stores.

The Club spokesperson continues: “Although we won’t be knocking door-to-door, we will have collectors with buckets following the sleigh. If you’d like to make a donation, please call or signal to the collectors as they pass. This year, we’ll have a card machine available as well as cash buckets. We’re very grateful to the people of Ruddington who support the Rotary Club so generously each festive season.”

All donations we make go into ‘Rushcliffe Rotary Club’s Benevolent Fund’ to support good causes in our local community and beyond.
