May’s Mayday Farewell

Residents and visitors who flocked to enjoy Ruddington Parish Council’s ‘Merry Monday’ event on The Green this week might not have realised it was also their last chance to see perhaps our village’s most famous vintage vehicle in action (on location above).

After almost a decade serving barista coffee to Ruddington and beyond out of their converted 1965 VW Split Screen Campervan, owners of The Split Screen Food & Drink Company have revealed they’re putting ‘May’ up for sale. They say the decision to sell their iconic vehicle comes after careful consideration of various factors, including commitments to other projects.

Jen Walker (pictured right) founded the business in 2015 as ‘The Split Screen Coffee Company’ – named after the distinctive van. She says: “It is with a huge amount of mixed emotions that I announce we have done our last event in May. For 9 years she has been part of my journey into business and a steadfast feature in our family summers. I am so grateful to all our beautiful customers and my employees, past and present, for all they have done to make our little business a success.”

Although mobile coffee will be a thing of the past, the company can now focus on its core business running the cafe in Parker’s Yard at the Framework Knitters’ Museum.  Jen promises good coffee is still available to have in, or to take away, along with bags of coffee for home use alongside lunches, pastries and cakes:

“We want to extend our sincerest gratitude to our loyal customers and the community for their unwavering support over the years – it’s been an absolute blast!” she adds.
