After Storm Babet brought us unusually persistent and heavy heavy rain to round off last week, village residents and businesses are thankful a drier spell of weather is now with us, and that damage and disruption was much more limited here than in many other parts of the country. With the ground already sodden due to unseasonably high October rainfall, the accurately forecasted deluge began on Thursday night (19th October) and continued unabated throughout Friday. Many drainage systems just couldn’t cope with the sheer quantity of water, and flooding occurred…

There’s been welcome relief for long-suffering Ruddington drivers and bus passengers this week after the imposition of temporary traffic lights at a notorious traffic bottleneck was postponed. As RUDDINGTON.info previously reported, following a number of gas leaks in recent years, Cadent Gas needs to carry out substantial maintenance on Wilford Road to replace the troublesome old iron gas main under ‘Dutton’s Hill’ (pictured top) with a “more durable” plastic pipe. This was due to happen between 16th October and 13th November 2023, therefore would have been going on at the same time as junction layout improvements…

Following further complaints from villagers about not being able to park near their homes, a consultation is underway about creating additional ‘residents only’ parking areas near Ruddington village centre. Ahead of their centenary celebrations, current members are extending a warm welcome to any woman to join them, regardless of age. They’re also keen to dispel some common misconceptions. Committee member Barbara Wheeler says: “Contrary to popular belief, the WI is not all about baking and jam making! Some of us enjoy doing that, but others like to go on visits in the local area, join in the various activities at our meetings or…
