Tributes to Former Cyclist & Ruddington Golf Captain

This week family, friends and former colleagues will be gathering in Ruddington to pay their last respects to a well known and much loved village resident who passed away last month, aged 81. Barbara Dickman (née Shelton) was born in Gedling, in the middle of World War Two, on January 30th, 1942. After moving with her family to Lowdham, as a teenager Barbara became a keen cyclist, entering numerous cycle racing competitions as part of The Broad Oak Cycling Club. Unusual Rescue from Ruddington Railings!

Just before 8 o’clock this morning (Thursday 14th April) two crews from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue attended a rather unusual incident – after a caller reported that a young deer had become trapped in iron fencing along Grange Mews in Ruddington. When firefighters from West Bridgford and East Leake arrived at Westgate Lodge, off Wilford Road, they discovered the deer stuck there, in considerable distress.
