Ruddington Blackout Explained

Ruddington’s electricity supplier has revealed the cause of a power cut which hit around half the homes in our village last night (18th October). Families enjoying Sunday night television were plunged into darkness at 8.05pm. After carrying out an investigation today, Western Power Distribution (WPD) reports that a fault on one its high voltage underground cables was to blame for a total of 1,974 properties initially being blacked out. Early Morning Blaze Hits Almost Two Thousand Homes

There were dramatic scenes in Ruddington during the early hours of this morning when an electricity sub-station on Old Station Drive caught fire – initially cutting power to 1,961 houses in our village. Flames were visible leaping high into the night sky. As Storm Dennis lashed Ruddington this weekend, some residents awoke on Sunday morning to find themselves with no electricity. Western Power Distribution (WPD) confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info that a fault on its low voltage network at the Savages Row substation is “affecting a predicted 171 properties” in the Wilford Road area at the northern end of our village.
