Roadworks Will Continue Until November!

The major work to reshape Ruddington’s busiest crossroads is set to cause significant disruption again from this Friday (7th June 2024) when four-way temporary traffic signals will be back in use at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane junction. Now we’re being told these will be needed until Friday 8th November! The unwelcome revelation by VIA East Midlands, that the expected completion date has been pushed back yet another four weeks, means the work to improve the layout of this increasingly busy village crossroads will ultimately have taken sixteen months. Since it began…

Disruptive Junction Work Restarts

After originally being rescheduled to resume on May 7th, and then being postponed until May 28th, the major work to reshape Ruddington’s busiest crossroads is now set to begin again this Monday, 20th May. These past few weeks have been welcome respite for long-suffering residents and motorists, during which Flawforth Lane has reopened and the temporary traffic lights at the junction with Loughborough Road and Kirk Lane removed. However, the final phase will see both of these return between now and the anticipated October 2024 completion date. Since this major…

Ruddington Crossroads Work Resumes Soon

After a welcome respite for long-suffering residents and motorists, during which Flawforth Lane has reopened and the temporary traffic lights at the junction with Loughborough Road and Kirk Lane removed, Ruddington’s seemingly never-ending crossroads work will be back soon. Since this major highways project began in July 2023, to improve the layout of the increasingly busy Ruddington junction, it has caused major frustration for both villagers and visitors. Before the widening work could even begin, numerous contractors including Cadent Gas, Severn Trent Water, National Grid, Virgin Media and BT Openreach – have had to be called in…

Flawforth Lane’s Unplanned Partial Closure

The ongoing Ruddington highways project which began in July 2023 – to improve the layout and install or reconfigure utility connections at the busy Kirk Lane/Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane crossroads – has entered its next phase earlier than expected. Following complaints from long-suffering residents and motorists, faced with frequent long queues through 4-way temporary traffic lights, early last month we reported the good news that the total closure of Flawforth Lane would only be actioned for around three weeks, from 2nd April until 26th April, rather than the three months planned originally. The not…

Gas Works Cause Chaos!

As if the ongoing work at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane junction isn’t enough, motorists trying to navigate through Ruddington today had even more delays to contend with. After starting on February 22nd, the gas maintenance work by Cadent at ‘Tavern Island’ – the mini-roundabout where Clifton Road meets Wilford Road – expanded unexpectedly from the grass verge into the carriageway.  Three-way temporary traffic lights were put into use, which caused long, peak-time queues (above). This work (below) is expected to continue tomorrow (Wednesday 28th February) so it’s likely there’s…

New Crossing Plans Revealed

Eagle-eyed villagers who’ve ventured down Clifton Road during the past couple of days may have wondered why men in fluorescent jackets were digging up a perfectly good pavement!? Well, we can reveal it’s part of ‘exploratory’ excavation work to determine the depth of utility services there for ‘design purposes’ for the installation of a proposed ‘Toucan’ pedestrian crossing.  As well as workers digging up the pavement area outside ‘Victoria Court’ (see photos) they’re also digging on the opposite side of Clifton Road in the grass verge and on the pavement adjacent…

Junction Works to Last Until October!

After another short period back on the old traffic lights, following the timely completion of cable re-routing work by Virgin Media, potentially disruptive work resumes at the Kirk Lane/Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane crossroads this week. Since this major highways project began in July 2023 – to improve the layout and install or reconfigure utility connections at the busy Ruddington junction – it has caused major frustration due to long, peak-time delays for drivers and bus passengers, and had a significant impact on nearby residents. The latest bombshell from Via East Midlands is that it now anticipates…

Ruddington’s June Roadworks

As previously reported, Ruddington’s motorists are already facing longer and longer delays at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane traffic lights caused by increased traffic volumes unmitigated by delayed junction improvement work there. Now we’re also being warned about additional hold-ups and disruption this summer due to roadworks scheduled along Loughborough Road and elsewhere in our village – even before this long overdue junction work finally begins. In June 2023 alone, there’s a week of water pipe renewals on the A60, five days of gas work by The Green and a weekend of…
