‘Community Sundays’ in Ruddington

Residents are invited to get involved with a wide variety of activities organised in and around our village on the first Sunday of each month. They’re an initiative which was started by Ruddington Baptist Church last year. Rachel Third from their Leadership Team tells us: “Community Sundays began from a desire to reconnect and build new relationships in the village after COVID-19. We wanted to go beyond our pre-COVID pattern of just meeting inside the building on a Sunday and instead get out and about in the community, hopefully doing…

Seeds and Strolling for Uganda

It’s now three years since we first found out that Ruddington’s last remaining public telephone box would be decommissioned – when BT Payphones announced its lack of use made it no longer viable to keep it in service. The Grade II listed, traditional, red, cast iron kiosk in front of the War Memorial on Church Street {pictured top left} is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Because it’s an important heritage landmark, within our village Conservation Area, ideas were invited to put it to an alternative use through…

The Bottle Top – Café, Beer & Eco Shop

When Glyn Thomas’s much loved Greengrocers closed its doors in 2018, locals feared the heart and been ripped out of Ruddington and that our village centre would never be the same again. It was clear that a shop dedicated solely to selling fresh fruit and vegetables may no longer be viable, nevertheless 2, High Street has now become a new hub of the community thanks to the vision of husband and wife team Anthony and Alex Preston. Together they brought to Ruddington a brand new business called The Bottle Top, which opened on May…

Watch Your Speed!

Neighbourhood Officers from Nottinghamshire Police have been in Ruddington again this afternoon carrying out speed checks on traffic entering our village along Wilford Road. Despite the 30mph limit now starting sooner, due to the new Bloor Homes development, with even a flashing sign to alert motorists to their speed as they pass Sellors’ Playing Field, they report that three vehicles were recorded still doing in excess of 35 mph along the main, built-up stretch. The offending drivers were dealt with by way of ‘Traffic Offence Reports’ – meaning they are…

The latest statistics from the official Coronavirus website show our village went ‘purple’ again for the 7-day period ending 10th September 2022 – recording a case rate of 442.3 people per 100,000 of population – making Ruddington rather an unexpected UK ‘hotspot’ for current infections. Now that there’s so little testing done, it’s likely actual…

Have Your Say on Ruddington’s Polling Stations

Rushcliffe Borough Council is asking residents for their views on its polling districts and polling places when we vote in local, regional and national elections. A consultation period has begun, inviting comments on where polling stations are located and the ease of accessing them for those with a disability. For Ruddington, this currently means either our Village Hall on Wilford Road (pictured top) or St Peter’s Rooms on Church Street (pictured bottom), depending upon where we live. Hundreds of new-build houses in Ruddington are increasing the number of eligible voters on our…
