‘Community Sundays’ in Ruddington

Residents are invited to get involved with a wide variety of activities organised in and around our village on the first Sunday of each month.

They’re an initiative which was started by Ruddington Baptist Church last year. Rachel Third from their Leadership Team tells us: “Community Sundays began from a desire to reconnect and build new relationships in the village after COVID-19. We wanted to go beyond our pre-COVID pattern of just meeting inside the building on a Sunday and instead get out and about in the community, hopefully doing things that people will find a blessing in the village and where others feel more able to easily join in.”

Since then, there’s been litter picking around Ruddington, bread making, craft activities, board games, coffee and cake at St Peter’s Rooms, volleyball at the Country Park (pictured top), walks, bike rides and a breakfast club for secondary school aged children and young people. What’s more, everything’s free of charge! “The activities are all funded from Ruddington Baptist Church’s core budget, which in turn comes from voluntary charitable donations from RBC members” explains Rachel.

She wants to reassure non-churchgoers that they’re also invited: “While this is a church-led event, which replaces our Sunday morning service that week, people of all faiths and none are very welcome and we strive for the activities to be extremely inclusive in all ways. There may occasionally be a Christian flavour to some activities (eg. a prayer or blessing said at start/end of activity) but people can take part in the short Christian elements as much or little as they feel comfortable with.”

Ruddington’s next ‘Community Sunday’ is on 2nd October – a ‘Youth Breakfast’ starting at 9.30am. Most other activities start at 10.30am and are held at a range of village locations. You can find more info at www.ruddingtonbaptist.org.uk/whats-on/community-sunday.
