With the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) getting underway this weekend, local businesses and community projects in our village are joining forces with others across Nottinghamshire to offer discounts, vouchers and prizes for playing our part in combatting climate change and achieving ‘net zero’. Village residents who need to visit Ruddington’s nearest household waste and recycling centre will no longer have to book beforehand to do so as of next month. Now that wider COVID-19 restrictions having been eased, Nottinghamshire County Council has announced the advance booking system at its West Bridgford facility on Rugby Road will be removed from Monday November 1st. The latest Ruddington crime figures, just released by Rushcliffe Police, reveal that thieves have struck again at a Ruddington building site – for a THIRD time! In the early hours of 10th September 2021, criminals got away with a three tonne digger from the Linden Homes ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development. Previously, thousands of pounds worth of scaffolding was stolen from the Flawforth Lane construction site in July, and various building items went missing in a raid the month before. Ruddington residents and village Councillors are expressing dismay that one of the key planning conditions for the approval of 175 houses down Asher Lane has now been abandoned by Rushcliffe Borough Council without a clear alternative. Crime in Ruddington is the focus of a short new survey which is dropping through residents’ letterboxes this week. It’s been produced on behalf of Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards following a spike of crime here over the summer months. Residents at the southern end of our village have sent an official complaint to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) after it became clear that a Ruddington property developer is allowing the first households to move into its new homes in violation of agreed planning conditions. It seems the various building sites around Ruddington at the moment are presenting new opportunities for criminals. The latest village crime statistics just released by Rushcliffe Police show that, last month, Linden Homes’ ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development was targeted again by thieves – who this time managed to get away with thousands of pounds worth of scaffolding from its construction site. Ruddington welcomed the return of its weekly 5k Parkrun for adults this morning (Saturday 24th July) after an unprecedented sixteen month gap. It was suspended back in March 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic so participants today were clearly keen to get their running shoes and high-vis back on! Whilst Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun had already resumed on Sunday mornings, for 4 to 10 year-olds, in April, Parkrun UK decided to wait for a further lifting of Coronavirus restrictions before restarting the timed run for the grown-ups on Saturday mornings.
