Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has revealed volunteers from Ruddington are up for gongs in two different categories during next month’s ‘Celebrating Rushcliffe Awards’ alongside a singer and keyboard player who runs frequent health and wellbeing music sessions here and a young, Ruddington sportswoman. The Ruddington branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) is among those in the Borough set to benefit from extra cash this year thanks to the current Mayor of Rushcliffe. Happy 80th to our Scouts!

This week marks another major milestone for 1st Ruddington Scouts – as the they celebrate their 80th birthday. The group actually came into existence during World War II – launching on 12th July 1943. Since then, as Ruddington’s population has grown, its membership has gone up substantially – with three Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops, numbering over 130 young people in all. Staff at our village library are inviting residents and other users to mark a special milestone with them this week – the 60th anniversary of its opening. Although never the prettiest building in Ruddington’s ‘Conservation Area’, the Church Street lending library has been serving bookworms and the wider community here since July 1963 – and most of us have become oblivious to its uninspired and dated appearance by now.
