Scouts’ Successful Festive Fundraiser

One of the many attractions at Ruddington’s three day Village Christmas Market this year was a pop-up stall on the Saturday which was run by 1st Ruddington Scouts. Keen to raise funds themselves for their many activities, in the months before the event many Beavers, Scouts and Cubs had spent time making glass decorations and other items to sell on the day – some of which are pictured below. Happy 80th to our Scouts!

This week marks another major milestone for 1st Ruddington Scouts – as the they celebrate their 80th birthday. The group actually came into existence during World War II – launching on 12th July 1943.  Since then, as Ruddington’s population has grown, its membership has gone up substantially – with three Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops, numbering over 130 young people in all. Two village scoutmasters are undertaking some major fundraising challenges this year in the hope of raising enough money to replace their leaky, old asbestos roof.
