Scouts’ Successful Festive Fundraiser

One of the many attractions at Ruddington’s three day Village Christmas Market this year was a pop-up stall on the Saturday which was run by 1st Ruddington Scouts. Keen to raise funds themselves for their many activities, in the months before the event many Beavers, Scouts and Cubs had spent time making glass decorations and other items to sell on the day – some of which are pictured below. Happy 80th to our Scouts!

This week marks another major milestone for 1st Ruddington Scouts – as the they celebrate their 80th birthday. The group actually came into existence during World War II – launching on 12th July 1943.  Since then, as Ruddington’s population has grown, its membership has gone up substantially – with three Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops, numbering over 130 young people in all. COVID-19 Outbreak Hits Ruddington Schools

The head teachers of both our village schools have confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been detected among their pupils. After a positive COVID-19 test result last week from a Year 4 student from St Peter’s Junior School on Ashworth Avenue, seventeen others from the same year group have also since tested positive for the virus, including a member of staff. Parish Council Buys Community Centre

Ruddington Parish Council has announced it has now completed the purchase of the former Youth & Community Centre site on The Green from Nottinghamshire County Council for use by our community in the future. It’ll be considering options on how to use the building (pictured above, in 2017, before it was targeted by vandals) and consulting with residents and local businesses in due course. Council to “Dispose of” Village Youth Centre

Our former Ruddington Youth and Community Centre has now officially been put up for sale by owners Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC). This substantial building on The Green was most recently a fitness centre run by Project Body UK – the organisation selected by the County Council to take over the running of the former Young People’s Centre in 2014 when spending cuts meant that NCC could no longer afford to run it themselves.
