Drivers in and out of Ruddington have again found themselves stuck in queues due to further roadworks which have sprung up unexpectedly today on Clifton Lane. It’s after another gas escape was detected on the bridge over Fairham Brook. Workers from Cadent are back onsite today (10th October) – attempting to trace and repair this latest leak – just a month since the last one. Again 24-hour temporary traffic lights are in use whilst the road is dug up. A notification from Via East Midlands has revealed these works are expected to…

The latest news from in and around Ruddington Village
Barbara’s New Book
A Ruddington legend has been busy again – this time launching her new book about a very specific bit of our village history. You may or may not have realised that 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of James Peacock Infant and Nursery School‘s move from St Peter’s Rooms on Church Street to its current, larger premises at Manor Park. At the time of this half-century celebration, Barbara Breakwell was a School Governor (from 2009 to 2018) and also the Treasurer of ‘The Friends of James Peacock School’. “I like local history…

As the darker nights return, drivers and pedestrians in Ruddington may be pleased to hear that long-awaited work to replace a missing lighting column in our village centre is scheduled for this weekend. It’s around a year since an electrical fault in the base of the street light at the corner of High Street and Charles Street caused it to rather dramatically burst into flames and then slowly ‘wilt’ to the floor. The top of the burnt out column was subsequently cut off, and the remaining stump covered up on…

Software company Ideagen Plc, which has its Head Office on Ruddington Fields Business Park, and employs around 1,200 people, has revealed it has entered into a “definitive agreement” to acquire ProcessMAP. In June, Ideagen itself was taken over by Rainforest Bidco Limited, a newly-incorporated wholly-owned subsidiary of funds managed by Hg Capital. However, it’s continuing to trade under the Ideagen brand as an already trusted name in software solutions for regulated industries. Speaking about the news, Ideagen CEO, Ben Dorks, said: “Both organisations share a common purpose, and this provides a compelling opportunity to do…

The driver then tried to evade police and failed to stop. A short time later the car came to a halt in Village Road and a man was detained. Police checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Ruddington in August.…
Read More‘Community Sundays’ in Ruddington
Residents are invited to get involved with a wide variety of activities organised in and around our village on the first Sunday of each month. They’re an initiative which was started by Ruddington Baptist Church last year. Rachel Third from their Leadership Team tells us: “Community Sundays began from a desire to reconnect and build new relationships in the village after COVID-19. We wanted to go beyond our pre-COVID pattern of just meeting inside the building on a Sunday and instead get out and about in the community, hopefully doing…

Organisers of the first ever ‘RUDD Awards’ have just announced the 18 finalists – individuals, businesses and community groups from the village who’ve been shortlisted from over 300 nominations. The inaugural ‘RUDD Awards’ were launched in July 2022 by RVCP, Ruddington Village Community Partnership, to celebrate locals who’re making a difference to life in Ruddington, as well as contributing to a thriving ‘community hub and prosperous high street’. The process was that residents and visitors submitted their nominations in six main categories. Earlier this month the awards committee shortlisted six nominees in each category. Then an…

It’s now three years since we first found out that Ruddington’s last remaining public telephone box would be decommissioned – when BT Payphones announced its lack of use made it no longer viable to keep it in service. The Grade II listed, traditional, red, cast iron kiosk in front of the War Memorial on Church Street {pictured top left} is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Because it’s an important heritage landmark, within our village Conservation Area, ideas were invited to put it to an alternative use through…
