This month sees the start of a brand new initiative in Ruddington for people living with memory loss and their carers. The ‘Green Memory Café’ is being launched at Rushcliffe Country Park on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st June in the newly refurbished Visitor Centre by the lake. Visitors to Rushcliffe Country Park can now enjoy an extra place to take refuge from the rain – or the sun! – thanks to a brand new natural wood shelter constructed near the Visitor Centre. Many lawns, verges and public spaces in Ruddington are a little ‘wilder’ at the moment – as ‘No Mow May’ comes to an end. Promoted each year by the charity ‘Plantlife’, the initiative encourages individuals and organisations to leave mowers in sheds during the month of May so that wildflowers among the grass can grow wild to provide a feast for pollinators, tackle pollution, and lock away atmospheric carbon below ground. A major programme of works has been announced, taking place throughout this summer, to maintain and repair the network of pathways which criss-cross Rushcliffe Country Park. Villagers went to the polls yesterday (4th May 2023), to elect Ruddington’s three representatives on Rushcliffe Borough Council, and the results are now in. With an impressive turnout of 43.1%, the three Labour Party candidates all secured many more votes than their Conservative & Green Party rivals, taking all three available seats. With just a fortnight left before we go to the polls on 4th May 2023, all the candidates standing for election here in Ruddington have now been revealed. Once again, villagers will not be asked to vote for any Ruddington Parish Councillors since, disappointingly, only 13 residents put themselves forward for the 16 available seats. Historic Hedgerow Ripped Out “in Error”

The house-builder currently constructing 175 new properties on former Ruddington Green Belt south of Musters Road says a contractor removed a large section of mature hedgerow there by mistake. Gardeners from ‘Buttercup Allotments’ off Asher Lane were alerted to the totally unexpected loss of their boundary hedge when a contractor working for Avant Homes suddenly starting digging it out on Maundy Thursday. Two Men Charged Following Ruddington Car Chase

Two suspects have appeared in court following a police chase which ended with a car crash and an arrest in Ruddington. The pursuit began when officers from Nottinghamshire Police‘s Road Crime Team spotted a car which was known to them in Welbeck Road, Radcliffe-on-Trent, at around 7.50pm on Monday (10th April). The vehicle was travelling with another car which earlier had been reported stolen. Police say the second car failed to stop for officers and a chase ensued as far as Ruddington, where the crash occurred. Officers then pursued a suspect…

Ruddington’s New Parkrun Life-Saver

Organisers of the weekly parkruns in Rushcliffe Country Park have taken delivery of a crucial piece of life-saving equipment – a defibrillator – which its own community stumped up the necessary funds for within a day! A social media appeal on March 30th raised the £816 required for the new, portable unit in less than half a day. Park Play Area Reopens for Easter

Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park have confirmed that vital maintenance work at their large children’s play area has been completed on schedule. That means the popular Ruddington children’s facility is now back open for villagers and visitors alike, in time for Easter, having been shut for an overhaul and safety checks during March.
