Villagers are up in arms about the large number of motorists flouting a current four-day road closure in Ruddington. As we reported last week, Clifton Road was shut to through-traffic yesterday (Monday) to allow major resurfacing work which is needed to repair damage caused by a burst water main earlier this month. Despite the icy conditions, and the fact that the old road surface was removed yesterday, eyewitnesses say numerous drivers are simply disregarding the closure by mounting the kerb and either driving along the pavement or going up on…

Village residents are being warned there’s more disruption ahead for drivers when one of Ruddington’s busiest roads is closed again for major repairs. Earlier this month Clifton Road was shut to traffic for 24 hours after Severn Trent Water workmen turned up to fix a burst water main on a Sunday (January 10th 2021) but there was no one available to fill in the hole and patch the road until the next day. Now highways officials have decided the already well-worn stretch of road needs major attention, following this latest…

Villagers have been left bemused after Severn Trent Water workmen turned up to fix a mains leak in Ruddington this afternoon, closed the road, repaired the pipe, but then left the hole and went home. Consequently, Clifton Road remains completely shut* to traffic between the junction with Camelot Street and Old Station Drive – with the usually busy route set to stay closed into tomorrow. In fact, it could take up to three days to fully re-open it. Vehicles caught out by the closure have been performing U-turns in the road since lunchtime…

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

Residents along Asher Lane without off-street parking will soon have fewer options for their vehicles if plans for new ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions go ahead. In fact, the proposals to put double-yellow lines along much of the narrow road, and also at its junctions with Distillery Street, Top Road and Musters Road, will come as no surprise to those who’ve battled long and hard against the new 175 home development there. That’s because they are to formally fulfil one of the planning conditions for the controversial Green Belt…

Which authority has the job of overseeing many different aspects of life in Ruddington could change dramatically if Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) gets its way. Today (Monday 21st September) the authority has launched its own online ‘consultation’ – because it says it “…wants to know what residents and organisations across Nottinghamshire think about council services and how they could best serve local people, their families and their communities going forward.” NCC’s proposal is for a new, ‘unitary’ council to deliver services in Nottinghamshire. To have your say you’re invited to share your…

Police say whoever is responsible for puncturing the car tyres of a Ruddington critical care nurse last month – leaving her both with a problem getting to work and a £320 bill to replace them – is still to be identified. It comes as Rushcliffe officers release the August crime statistics for Ruddington {published in full below} which reveal two further incidents of criminal damage to the tyres of other cars parked on Cumberland Close during the same period. The perpetrator’s motive for doing this is unclear, but it’s been…
