Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

Ruddington Resurfacing To Resume

Residents and businesses along Camelot Street, Woodhouse Gardens, Marl Close and the Brookside Road estate can breathe a sigh of relief at the news their sole access road will only be left ‘in limbo’ for a couple of weeks – after resurfacing work was suddenly and rather dramatically suspended last Saturday. Just hours into the long awaited scheme on Camelot Street, all road workers were pulled off the site “until further notice” with Shaun Faulkner of contractors Tarmac Highway Services, blaming a “lack of cooperation and abusive comments from the residents on…

Ruddington Resurfacing Suspended After Workers ‘Abused’

Just hours after the long awaited resurfacing work began on Camelot Street this morning, contractors called a halt and went home – citing dangerous behaviour and abuse from some motorists. This bizarre turn of events follows the widely welcomed decision by Nottinghamshire County Council in July to finally proceed with a complete overhaul of the badly potholed stretch of road which had been put on hold until after the building of the Lace Gardens development was complete. As we’ve previously reported, preparatory work began at the start of September. Shortly afterwards,…

Camelot Commences!

Asher Lane Construction Commences

Residents along the southern side of Musters Road and Western Fields have something new to watch from their back bedroom windows – the disappearance of the open views they have enjoyed ever since their homes were built. Thanks to the Coronavirus, these householders have actually had rather longer to continue enjoying their green fields and wildlife than the property developer intended – since its imminent groundworks and construction were abruptly halted by the ‘lockdown’ in March. However, to some residents’ chagrin, this was not before a sizeable section of mature hedgerow…

Waiting for Camelot!

Residents who, for years, have had to endure bone-shaking journeys up and down one of Ruddington’s worst roads finally have some good news! A full highway resurface has been agreed for all of Camelot Street – also extending into Shelton Gardens, Camelot Crescent, Swanson Court, Woodhouse Gardens and Brookside Road – which will tie in with previous resurfacing work carried out on the rest of the estate over two years’ ago. Team Manager Design (Maintenance) at Via East Midlands, Peter Topliss, explains: “The works were delayed for a couple of reasons. The scheme…

Kempson Court to Close

One of Ruddington’s less well known retail areas is set to be demolished for housing – after the owner revealed the site has been running at a loss. It seems the Coronavirus outbreak finally sealed its fate! Eight separate businesses are currently being accommodated in the tucked away courtyard at the far end of Kempson Street – created almost ten years ago in an L-shaped block of units that were originally intended to be used as workshops. However, some of these have since been refurbished and let out as both…

Camelot Construction Complaints

The name of a contractor building new homes in our village has recently become “mud” for some residents and traders on a Ruddington estate! HTC Construction is currently erecting the first half-dozen houses of its “Lace Gardens” development – which will eventually see 28 new homes put up at the corner of Brookside Road and Woodhouse Gardens. Two existing houses were cleared from the current site which otherwise used to be a green, open space. The closure and demolition of the current Malmic Lace factory building adjacent is imminent in order to…
