What a whirlwind 2022 has been for travel writes Ruddington’s Leia Morales. Two and a half years after starting my business as a Travel Counsellor and the world of travel is back to normal (almost!). This summer saw my customers reaching all corners of the globe and enjoying exploring new countries or finally being able to visit family. By far the most popular destination for my customers has been the USA, with Orlando proving my top seller. I’ve had a family drive over 2000 miles around the west coast of America in…

Ruddington businesses are helping families to get into the Hallowe’en mood this weekend with their very own ‘Trick or Treat’ trail around our village centre. Co-ordinated by Alex Preston of The Bottle Top (pictured), this Saturday’s event (29th October 2022) has been organised as a safe and fun way for our village youngsters to fill up their baskets and buckets. Alex explains: “23 Ruddington traders have bags of sweets and treats ready for you to collect. Look out for the posters in participating shop windows – or pop in to collect a list…

As the darker nights return, drivers and pedestrians in Ruddington may be pleased to hear that long-awaited work to replace a missing lighting column in our village centre is scheduled for this weekend. It’s around a year since an electrical fault in the base of the street light at the corner of High Street and Charles Street caused it to rather dramatically burst into flames and then slowly ‘wilt’ to the floor. The top of the burnt out column was subsequently cut off, and the remaining stump covered up on…

Residents are invited to get involved with a wide variety of activities organised in and around our village on the first Sunday of each month. They’re an initiative which was started by Ruddington Baptist Church last year. Rachel Third from their Leadership Team tells us: “Community Sundays began from a desire to reconnect and build new relationships in the village after COVID-19. We wanted to go beyond our pre-COVID pattern of just meeting inside the building on a Sunday and instead get out and about in the community, hopefully doing…

It’s now three years since we first found out that Ruddington’s last remaining public telephone box would be decommissioned – when BT Payphones announced its lack of use made it no longer viable to keep it in service. The Grade II listed, traditional, red, cast iron kiosk in front of the War Memorial on Church Street {pictured top left} is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Because it’s an important heritage landmark, within our village Conservation Area, ideas were invited to put it to an alternative use through…

This latest burst of creative, knitted activity has just hit our village centre for the summer – courtesy of the now infamous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’. Following a similar ‘Yarn Bomb’ at Christmas, one or two changing pillar box toppers outside the Co-op before and after that (marking topical events such as Remembrance Day) and then a very impressive ‘Platinum Jubilee Yarn Bomb’ – where the knitters really pulled out all the stops – this new one’s called ‘Ruddington on Sea’. A ‘Ninjas’ spokesperson tells us: “This is to bring some summer fun for…
