The Show Must Go On!

The ‘purple door to fame’ at Freedom Dance & Performance at 7, Charles Street has sadly seen very little movement over these past few months – after all the school’s usual classes were suspended until further notice due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, since March 19th, its Principal Stacey Green and her 150 pupils – with ages ranging from 2 to 18 – have been in no mood for sitting around idly during the ‘lockdown’. From the safety of their homes in Ruddington (and, in some cases, much further afield) they began to…

Ruddington wheelchair tennis star and Tokyo Paralympics hopeful James Shaw believes that he has returned to on-court training stronger and fitter following the COVID-19 Coronavirus ‘lockdown’. Villager James, who turned 25 this week, says this is thanks to support he’s received from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the national governing body of tennis. He’s just resumed training in Loughborough and remains focused on future goals – hopeful of being able to compete in front of home fans in Nottingham later this year. He reveals: “Training is pretty much back to normal now. I’m…

Body Centre Closure Confirmed

Attempts to save Ruddington’s dedicated health, fitness and youth centre from permanent closure appear to have failed. As previously reported on this website The Body Centre on The Green shut its doors unexpectedly on the 8th of December 2016 after running into financial difficulties. Just a few days after this sudden closure, Ryan Charlesworth gave members and users of Project Body UK‘s facilities a glimmer of hope that the business might be saved after receiving a flood of offers to help.  However it appears this has not been enough to secure the centre’s future, and he posted…

That’s the title of the latest Facebook update from Ryan Charlesworth at Ruddington’s Project Body UK. This follows a previous announcement on Saturday that our local health, fitness and youth centre had closed its doors for the final time last Thursday.  <ORIGINAL STORY HERE> But a flood of suggestions and offers of support from within the village and elsewhere seem to have precipitated a rapid change of heart – with Ryan now saying The Body Centre might now reopen by next month. He writes: “Over the past 4 days we have been…

Body Centre Closes Down

Fitness fans, community and youth groups in Ruddington have been left shocked and dismayed by the sudden closure of  Project Body UK on The Green. This was the organisation selected by Nottinghamshire County Council to take over the running of the former Young Peoples’ Centre just two years’ ago – after spending cuts meant that NCC could no longer afford to run it themselves. Since that time many different, local community groups have begun to use the building alongside the gym’s own health and fitness projects. Then, on the 22nd of June this year, Project Body UK…
