Under Fives’ Female Football Reaches Ruddington!

Did you know Ruddington now has its very own football team for girls under the age of five? Not only that, it’s currently the only female soccer squad in our village. Moving the Goalposts!

During the summer we reported on an unpopular decision by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) to remove the netting from one of the goalposts in Sellors’ Recreation Ground to discourage people from using it. It’s after some new ‘Fairham Green’ residents, who’d recently moved into the houses built just behind it, complained to custodians RPC that stray balls from young people playing football there were hitting their cars and windows. Campaigners who fought to save a Ruddington playing field for future generations are dumbfounded by a decision to remove the netting from one of the goalposts to discourage people from using it. A dozen budding Ruddington soccer stars of the future are still ‘buzzing’ after enjoying the experience of a lifetime at the weekend. Twelve members of Ruddington Village Colts Under 10s team played their own very special part at Meadow Lane on Saturday as Notts County inflicted a convincing National League defeat on visitors Woking – a club record 31st win of the season. Villagers are invited to “a feast of family fun and football” – the community, charity soccer match which takes place in Ruddington every Boxing Day. As usual, it’s being staged by Ruddington Village Colts Football Club at Elms Park – on Monday December 26th 2022 – and kicks off at 11.00am.
