A Cumberland Close Compromise?
New proposals to resolve access issues for residents in a Ruddington cul-de-sac, whilst still enabling some parking there for those who need it, have been put out for consultation. As RUDDINGTON.info reported in August, after numerous complaints about inconsiderate parking and damage to vehicles, there was a previous consultation by Via East Midlands (on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council) which proposed prohibiting all parking on Cumberland Close between 9am and 5pm every day. This caused dismay among some residents and businesses along Easthorpe Street who have no off-street parking of their own…

Ruddington residents and village Councillors are expressing dismay that one of the key planning conditions for the approval of 175 houses down Asher Lane has now been abandoned by Rushcliffe Borough Council without a clear alternative. At a meeting of its Planning Committee yesterday, Councillors voted 7 to 2 in favour of allowing Avant Homes to continue letting residents move into its ‘Wilbur Chase’ development – despite not all the stipulated highway improvements having yet been completed. The original planning conditions were imposed to avoid worsening the peak-time traffic congestion through our village…

Ruddington Parish Councillors have again said “no” to imposing a time restriction or long stay parking charges in their Church Street Car Park. As we reported earlier this week, following an approach from Ruddington Co-op, the idea was revisited at last night’s full Parish Council Meeting (October 12th). Although parking would have remained free for up to two hours (with the two options put forward either making that the maximum stay or imposing parking charges after that) Councillors voted unanimously against both parking proposals by Horizon Parking Ltd which it had made…

Village Councillors are to revisit the possibility of charging for parking in their Church Street Car Park following an approach from our Co-op. Whilst parking there is currently free and unlimited, the foodstore’s proposal – suggesting two possible options – is on the agenda for Tuesday night’s Ruddington Parish Council Meeting (12th October). It comes after the retailer noticed that the turnover of cars in the 39 marked car park bays is very low, with some vehicles appearing to remain there all day. Although all the spaces in front of…

With the blue notice below, the Ruddington business is seeking to expand what it can offer to its customers from our village and beyond. Ruddington Grange Golf Club offers various bookable rooms of…
Read MoreMP’s Village Crime Questionnaire
Crime in Ruddington is the focus of a short new survey which is dropping through residents’ letterboxes this week. It’s been produced on behalf of Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards following a spike of crime here over the summer months. It was particularly the increase in house burglaries which prompted a number of her constituents to write, expressing their concerns. Our MP says she wants to listen to our views about crime in the community in order to raise these concerns with our local police and Nottinghamshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner, Caroline Henry. The…

Residents and businesses in and around Cumberland Close will have to wait and see what’s decided by the authorities – now that their views on how to solve the local parking problem have been submitted. It follows long-standing frustration that inconsiderate parkers on both sides of this residential cul-de-sac, off Easthorpe Street, were frequently blocking residents’ driveways, obstructing pavements and narrowing the road to such an extent that wider vehicles servicing the properties could not get through. Face-to-face confrontation between residents and car users ensued – followed by damage to vehicles and near-misses…

Parents of children who are starting Year Six this September are being urged to put down FOUR preferences when applying for their child’s secondary school place – to avoid losing out on their preferred school or academy for September next year. The warning from Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) applies to all its schools whose pupils are about to start their final year at junior school. This is in readiness for the 2022 autumn term, for which the application deadline to apply for secondary school places is the end of October 2021. NCC…

This weekend’s official opening of Ruddington’s new skate park has been hailed a great success by organisers – after people of all ages and abilities flocked to the special sessions arranged for its launch at Rushcliffe Country Park yesterday (Saturday 14th August). Although the £210,000 state-of-the-art facility actually opened in June, it was decided to wait until all COVID-19 restrictions had been lifted to put on this more formal event. Beginners and more advanced boarders from Ruddington and beyond joined together from 9.30am for the sessions provided by Skate Nottingham. These included…
