TODAY (Friday 31st March 2023) was the extended deadline by which tree planting must be registered to be included in ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ (QGC) as a legacy to Her Majesty. Ruddington has seen numerous local companies, groups and individuals get involved with this national initiative. With elections for new Ruddington Borough and Parish Councillors taking place on Thursday 4th May 2023, there are a few things villagers may need to do right now in preparation. A group of eco-minded Ruddington residents is expressing its dismay and disbelief that a major housing developer suddenly changed its mind about allowing them to plant a long row of trees on its land – and didn’t even tell them! Funding Boost for Ruddington Athlete

A successful young long jumper and sprinter from our village is among this year’s elite athletes to be awarded Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) funding to support their efforts and achieve their goals through an ‘Elite Sports Grant’. 19-year-old Molly Palmer, who was born and raised in Ruddington, is one of 36 local athletes from across 17 different sports to benefit from the Council’s cash – which helps them with costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment. As the extended deadline for planting trees to be part of ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ (QGC) draws near, a community voluntary group has revealed it’s about to put in what it believes will be the longest row of trees in our village so far in memory of Her Majesty.
