Tree-mendous Job, Ruddington!

TODAY (Friday 31st March 2023) was the extended deadline by which tree planting must be registered to be included in ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ (QGC) as a legacy to Her Majesty. Ruddington has seen numerous local companies, groups and individuals get involved with this national initiative. The latest to be revealed is at our Country Park, where The Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park planted 10 mature trees, including Hornbeam, Silver Birch and Crab Apple to replace trees affected by ‘Ash Dieback’ (top photo). With concerns about our warming climate brought into sharp focus this week by record-breaking temperatures, eco-conscious Ruddingtonians may be pleased to hear that we can now apply for more FREE trees this summer. For the fifth year running, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is offering residents the chance to make our properties greener without charge. As previously reported, Ruddington’s new ‘Royal Oak’ tree was kindly donated by villager Barbara Breakwell for Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) to plant on The Green during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

A Royal Oak Tree, which has been growing in the garden of a former Ruddington Parish Councillor for a decade, has now taken pride of place on our village green; whilst one of Ruddington’s biggest employers has added a new Hornbeam Tree in its grounds at Ruddington Hall.
