Visitors to Ruddington village centre are being treated to an array of amazing, knitted creations this Christmas after an unexpected ‘yarn bomb’ added a new dimension to our more conventional festive decorations. With the usual traders’ Christmas trees and St Peter’s Rooms light installation already in place, yesterday (December 3rd) a group calling itself ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ swept through Church Street with hundreds of additional, seasonal creations to bring some festive colour for yuletide shoppers and sightseers. Woman Arrested After Abingdon Drive Crash

Police say a woman has been arrested after reports a car was involved in a collision with a parked car in Ruddington. Officers were called to Abingdon Drive in our village at 4.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 1st December). This road – and also Ashworth Avenue at its junction with the A60 – were temporarily blocked off whilst the incident was dealt with. Village Centre Roadworks Postponed

In another strange but welcome turn of events, the planned work by Severn Trent Water around Kempson Street, which was due to start today (Tuesday 30th November), has been called off! Ruddington traders and motorists had been dreading more disruption and delays coming, as it was, straight after Cadent had only just completed its over-running gas main repair work. This had closed Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill for almost two weeks, causing peak time traffic chaos. No sooner has Cadent Gas finally completed its over-running repair work – which closed Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill for almost two weeks – village centre traders and motorists in Ruddington are immediately facing more potential disruption and delays this week. Businesses in Ruddington are weighing up the likely implications of new measures announced this weekend by the Prime Minister to try to stop a worrying COVID-19 variant spreading in Britain. A Ruddington charity which was set up four years’ ago to give a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families has been the first to officially receive its cash from the 2020-2021 round of the Co-op Local Community Fund.  Local shoppers raised a total £5232.13 for Bloomin’ Dementia, based on Easthorpe Street, and representatives were presented with their cheque at the Church Street Food Store yesterday (November 25th). Those attending the official re-opening of Ruddington’s famous Framework Knitters’ Museum this week got to see it in a different light…. the dark! Staff and volunteers at Ruddington’s now internationally acclaimed tourist attraction welcomed invited guests to see the newly expanded site at four o’clock on Tuesday afternoon (23rd November) – and it was soon apparent why this time was chosen. Motorists, bus users and business owners in Ruddington have expressed dismay on learning that the recent traffic disruption in our village centre will continue for even longer – with emergency gas main work on Wilford Road STILL unfinished. Originally it was planned that two-way traffic signals would suffice whilst Cadent carried out repairs to a fractured gas main under Dutton’s Hill.
