Could the Tour of Britain be returning to Ruddington?
There’s been some excitement among villagers today following this morning’s announcement that the ‘Tour of Britain’ will be back in Nottinghamshire this summer. Our county is to host the fifth stage of this year’s elite cycle race on Thursday 8th September – four years to the day since the last time. Anyone resident in Ruddington in 2018 can’t fail to remember the anticipation created by the route coming right through the centre of our village, which led to months of preparation ahead of ‘the big day’ by individuals, local businesses, numerous…

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following what appeared to be two back-to-back incidents in Ruddington Village Centre last week. Customers and staff at Ruddington Fish Bar watched in some bemusement as the first early evening fracas unfolded on Thursday (3rd February) at just after 6pm. Owner Demetrios Lawton told RUDDINGTON.info: “Police are everywhere!” speculating that it could a ‘domestic’, or possibly ‘road rage’. Around an hour later he added: “There is another one now, in the middle of Church Street! It seems to be a totally different incident.” Officers who attended…

In common with many other activities in our village, the popular, face-to-face ‘Ruddington Business Partnership’ meetings were put on hold early in 2020 when the Coronavirus pandemic struck. With all the UK’s hospitality venues closed for a time by COVID-19, then restrictions in place after that, the monthly networking sessions at The Next Episode on Dutton’s Hill were substituted by fortnightly online meetings via Zoom – incorporating Rushcliffe Business Partnership networkers from across the Borough. Post ‘lockdown’, just as sessions in our village were getting back into their swing last…

Rushcliffe Borough Council has announced that work has finally begun on the refurbishment of its Education & Visitor Centre at Rushcliffe Country Park. The upgrade was first mooted in 2015 – and followed by a public consultation two years’ later. Improvements to the building will include the addition of a permanent café, an enhanced visitors’ centre and a bookable conference room, along with improved landscaping and toilet facilities. The authority says it’s also being ‘carbon clever’ at the popular Ruddington tourist attraction by installing solar panels and an air source heat pump…

The possibility of building a third school in Ruddington – so that our growing village can cope with an influx of new, young families over the next few years – is being discussed by Councillors this week. Members of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee are meeting at County Hall this Monday (13th December 2021) to wade through a seventy page document which includes a ‘Basic Need Programme of School Expansion’. Up until now, the focus has been on a lack of secondary school places for village children who’ve previously…

After travel restrictions due to COVID-19 last year thwarted Santa’s plans to do his usual pre-Christmas visit to our village, Father Christmas has announced he will be doing two tours of Ruddington this year – starting TODAY! As last year, from 11am to 5pm this Friday (December 10th) a giant, inflatable Santa has replaced the big man in the Rushcliffe Rotary Club‘s fundraising sleigh on Church Street, near the Co-op (top photo), for a static collection. However, Father Christmas himself will then arrive to tour the residential streets of Ruddington – waving…

For 2021 a ‘physical’ ceremony returned – and was held last night (December 8th) at The Rushcliffe Arena. Gordon Dyne, Chair of the South Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, received recognition for his conservation work at Wilwell Farm Cutting Nature Reserve. Gordon is pictured above receiving his trophy from (L to R) Tom Holodynsky of Great Northern Group, Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Simon Robinson and and Mayor of Rushcliffe Cllr…

As Ruddington heads into the festive season, Rushcliffe Police have released their latest monthly statistics showing that reported crime here more than doubled in a month. Whilst only four crimes were listed during October, new November statistics show nine separate offences in our village which were reported to officers online or via 101. However, this is still significantly lower than in some previous months, and none of the offences was very serious. They include the previously reported breaking of two windows at Gino’s Ristorante on Church Street, two drive-offs from the…

Of course, our village is spoilt for choice when it comes to public houses – with the historic seven (above) now joined by other Ruddington venues where you can sit down to enjoy an alcoholic drink or two – such as Ruddington Grange Golf Club, The Bottle Top and Philo’s Deli. However, it’s the more traditional community inns which are the focus of Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards‘ latest competition – to find ‘The Best Pub in Rushcliffe’. She has launched this search in tandem with her ‘Best Local Shop Awards 2021’ –…
