This week, three of Britain’s biggest conservation charities – The National Trust, World Wildlife Fund and RSPB – have announced they’re joining forces to try to halt the destruction of UK nature using Sir David Attenborough’s ‘Save Our Wild Isles’ campaign as their inspiration. Runners from Ruddington and beyond are being invited to sign up for this year’s Rushcliffe 10k and Fun Run – which is back at Rushcliffe Country Park next month following a four year absence due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Hosted by Rushcliffe Athletics Club the event will replace the usual Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun on Sunday March 26th and include both a family-friendly 2k Fun Run starting at 10am as well as the Rushcliffe 10k run at 11am. Police Praise Ruddington Drivers

Motorists entering our village via one of its northern gateways are being praised for doing better at obeying the speed limit than when Nottinghamshire Police previously carried out checks there. When Rushcliffe South neighbourhood officers last brought their radar gun to Wilford Road in September 2022 they recorded three vehicles still doing in excess of 35mph along the main, built-up stretch. 24 More Green Belt Homes Approved

Over eighteen months after plans were revealed to add further houses to a current Ruddington development, permission to expand it onto additional land which was also previously part of our village Green Belt has been granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Subject to conditions and an additional ‘Section 106’ agreement, two dozen more houses will now be constructed alongside the 185 already being built by William Davis Homes at ‘Lace Fields’ on former agricultural land opposite Mere Way. Ruddington Shoplifter Jailed

A prolific shoplifter has been put behind bars and banned from a number of local stores as Nottinghamshire Police continue their promised crackdown on repeat offenders. Dale Tainton, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing from Ruddington Co-op on January 7th this year. The 45-year-old had a magnetic de-tagging device when neighbourhood police officers caught him. After pleading guilty to shoplifting and going equipped to steal, he was jailed for eight weeks when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on January 16th. Reprieve for Ruddington’s Remaining Green Belt?

A new document which has just been published (January 2023) seems to indicate that further large swathes of Ruddington’s surrounding countryside will not be required for more development within the next 15 years. As part of the ‘Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan: Preferred Approach Consultation’ being undertaken by the Greater Nottinghamshire Planning Partnership (GNPP), Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has not allocated any further Ruddington Green Belt for housing or commercial use within ‘Appendix A: Preferred Sites (Rushcliffe Borough)’ between now and 2038.
