‘Open Gardens’ Return After Four Year Gap

After all the excitement of Ruddington’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at the beginning of June, there’s another, big weekend event taking place all over our village at the start of next month. On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm on both days, ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ is back for the first time since 2018. Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

A Royal Oak Tree, which has been growing in the garden of a former Ruddington Parish Councillor for a decade, has now taken pride of place on our village green; whilst one of Ruddington’s biggest employers has added a new Hornbeam Tree in its grounds at Ruddington Hall. When NHS Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group relocated from Easthorpe House to new premises in June 2020, the future of the Grade 2 listed Ruddington property looked rather uncertain. Local archers may soon have a new location to practice their sport if an application to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is successful – on green fields at the edge of Ruddington. Unusual Rescue from Ruddington Railings!

Just before 8 o’clock this morning (Thursday 14th April) two crews from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue attended a rather unusual incident – after a caller reported that a young deer had become trapped in iron fencing along Grange Mews in Ruddington. When firefighters from West Bridgford and East Leake arrived at Westgate Lodge, off Wilford Road, they discovered the deer stuck there, in considerable distress. Positive Response to Solar Farm Plans

Proposals for a renewable energy park on current agricultural land to the south west of Ruddington seem to have received a mostly favourable reaction from villagers so far. Further details about this planned green power project were revealed today (Tuesday 22nd March) by Ridge Clean Energy during the first of its two public exhibitions being held in St Peter’s Rooms. As plans progress for the 2022 ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend, organisers are now seeking villagers who’d be able and willing to open their gardens to others in support of two children’s charities. As before, all proceeds from the event on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Back in the summers of 2016 and 2018 the Open Gardens proved a great success, with an impressive £2280 raised for the two charities.
