The Visitor Centre at Rushcliffe Country Park was the venue for another recent gathering on Rushcliffe Social Prescribing team’s ‘Friendship Calendar’ – aimed at engaging with local people to tackle social isolation. Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘Reach Rushcliffe’ initiative funded this free session in Ruddington last month, which was attended by over a dozen people. As plans progress for the 2022 ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend, organisers are now seeking villagers who’d be able and willing to open their gardens to others in support of two children’s charities. As before, all proceeds from the event on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Back in the summers of 2016 and 2018 the Open Gardens proved a great success, with an impressive £2280 raised for the two charities. A Ruddington-based artist is aiming to raise ten thousand pounds for two charities – following a project in his home studio which saw him produce 1,000 hand-made linocut prints in just ONE day! Tristram Aver‘s “1,000 Native British Trees” is a fundraiser aiming to highlight the importance of woodland conservation, but also to show how spending time with nature benefits our health and wellbeing, especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
