Residents’ Concerns Over Second Planning Breach

Villagers living close to the ‘Wilbur Chase’ housing development in Ruddington say they’re very concerned that the property builder could soon be allowed to get away with another serious infringement of its planning conditions for the new estate. Avant Homes (Midlands) is currently constructing 175 new houses on our former Green Belt, south of Musters Road, on what used to be 15.89 acres of farmland. Residents first complained to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) in September last year when the developer began allowing households to move in to the first of its completed new properties…

Five Years of Free Trees

With concerns about our warming climate brought into sharp focus this week by record-breaking temperatures, eco-conscious Ruddingtonians may be pleased to hear that we can now apply for more FREE trees this summer. For the fifth year running, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is offering residents the chance to make our properties greener without charge. It’s part of the authority’s stated strategy “to provide sustainable environments in line with the Borough’s significant housing and employment growth in the coming years”. This is certainly the case for Ruddington, where hundreds of new homes…

Special School Plans Approved

The wheels are now in motion for a Grade 2 listing building here in Ruddington to begin a new chapter in its history – after planning permission for a ‘special school’ there was granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). As RUDDINGTON.info reported in April, an application was submitted by Polaris Children’s Services to turn ‘Easthorpe House’ at 165, Loughborough Road into a school for pupils with special educational needs. The approval means the former offices of NHS Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group will soon be back in use to provide classrooms for around 80 pupils aged…

Thousands Raised During Village Open Gardens

Organisers of this month’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend have revealed the event was a great success – securing almost £4,500 for their two chosen charities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usually biennial was last held in 2018, but it returned even bigger and better on 2nd & 3rd July 2022. Through the weekend people across our village once again allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Jane Piggott says: “The organisers are very…

Artex to be Fossil-fuel Free On Site by End of 2022

The Artex Ltd site on Pasture Lane in Ruddington will be fossil fuel-free by the end of the year, thanks to the installation of a biomass heating system. The new system will heat their warehouses, offices and hot water to remove diesel and gas and fully decarbonise their site. Pellet silos are currently being constructed and will feed wooden pellets into the furnace, warming the air in the system which is then distributed through air vents into the warehouse and fed into the office central heating system. Installation is in its final stages and…

New Rules for Ruddington Dog Walkers

Village residents who exercise their four legged friends in public places now need to be careful not to ‘fall foul’ of new regulations. New Owners for Day Nursery

A popular Ruddington child care facility, which has been looking after villagers’ babies and pre-school children for the past 23 years, has been sold by its original owner. Ruddington Day Nursery at ‘Grange House’ on Wilford Road was judged ‘Outstanding’ in all three of its Ofsted reports, with the most recent inspection being in 2019.  Its Green Belt countryside location – with natural outdoor spaces for kids to play and learn (the so-called ‘Forest School’) – has been a key part of its success. It has now been acquired by Grandir…

Where’s Ruddington’s Royal Oak Gone!?

So many concerned villagers have been contacting RUDDINGTON.info over the past fortnight, asking this question, we thought we’d better publish a quick update for you. As previously reported, Ruddington’s new ‘Royal Oak’ tree was kindly donated by villager Barbara Breakwell for Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) to plant on The Green during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. There was fanfare, ceremony and much interest as Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards was invited to do the tree planting on June Village Market day – alongside an attractive, stone-mounted plaque, already in situ. However, shortly…
