Thefts From Cars and Burglaries Increase Village Crime Rate

After a post-lockdown ‘spike’ in April, then a ‘quieter’ month in May, June again saw an increase in Ruddington crimes reported to Rushcliffe Police. Statistics just released show there were fifteen incidents logged by officers for our village during last month – which is 50% more than in the month before. Reported Village Crime Increases Post-Lockdown

Crime statistics for Ruddington, just released by Rushcliffe Police for April 2021, show a significant rise in reported offences when compared with the first three months of this year. The end of the strictest ‘lockdown’ measures here is thought to be a contributory factor – with more people now out and about and more village premises now open for business. Stolen Digger Stopped by Stinger

A mini digger which was stolen from a Ruddington garden last night has been recovered by Nottinghamshire Police after it was spotted heading towards Newark. Brazen thieves broke down security fencing at the property on Loughborough Road, reversed in their van, and loaded on the machinery before making off. As police were called, the victim confronted a man who reportedly armed himself with a plank of wood and scaffolding poles and struck the man to the back, whilst the other offender continued to load the digger into the van. New statistics just published by Nottinghamshire Police indicate the number of reported incidents of ‘antisocial behaviour’ in our village shot up by 132 per cent during the Coronavirus pandemic. Figures from the past twelve months of COVID-19 restrictions and ‘lockdowns’ show Ruddington’s increase was second only to the Ashfield District of Nottinghamshire – leading to alarmist stories in some local news media. Figures just released for February 2021 by Rushcliffe Police show that offences in Ruddington have dropped again – to the lowest level since RUDDINGTON.info first started reporting them on a monthly basis. Prolific Shoplifter Jailed

A 31-year-old man, who originally received a deferred sentence for a shoplifting spree in Ruddington and Clifton last September, is now behind bars after committing further offences over Christmas. Following his original sentence, Aaron Kelly (pictured above), of no fixed address, was re-arrested on December 29th and re-sentenced the next day at Nottingham Crown Court after being found responsible for numerous, further shop thefts. Altogether he committed 41 crimes including stealing gift sets, food and makeup – as well as smashing goods inside a shop. Mr Kelly must now spend six months in jail.…

Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. You may be pleased to hear that, just prior to the new ‘lockdown’, Ruddington enjoyed one of its ‘quietest’ months in recent history when it comes to recorded crime. After 23 incidents were reported to Rushcliffe Police during September, during all of October only 6 crimes in our village came to the attention of its officers – a drop of 74%.
