Village Crime Rate Falls to New Low

Figures just released for February 2021 by Rushcliffe Police show that offences in Ruddington have dropped again – to the lowest level since RUDDINGTON.info first started reporting them on a monthly basis.

Helped by the latest ‘lockdown’ only FOUR crimes were recorded in the village for the whole of last month, none of them too serious. The offences reported to officers via 101 from 1st – 28th February were:-

FEB 5th:               Unknown suspects entered a property under renovation on Loughborough Road and stole items

FEB 3rd & 17th: The same vehicle committed two drive offs from the Loughborough Road petrol station

FEB 25th:            Unknown suspects stole netting from goalposts on Barleylands sometime during the past week

Inspector Craig Berry

Rushcliffe’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Craig Berry, reports it has (thankfully) been a similar picture across his patch: “Burglary offences have been low in the last month and it will be interesting to see what the easing of the COVID restrictions does to crime trends and criminals behaviour” he says.

Nevertheless, he is asking villagers to be on their guard after an elderly resident in Rushcliffe was the victim of a significant telephone fraud: “The criminal claimed to be from a bank and convinced the victim to transfer many thousands of pounds of their life savings to another bank account” the Inspector reveals. “The case is owned by fraud investigators and fraud protect officers are supporting the victim. Fraud has seen significant increases over the last year and it angers me that criminals target elderly and vulnerable people. Please give some time to speak to your elderly relatives as banks will never contact customers in this way. Further advice is available via Action Fraud.”

If you have information about any of the above reported offences in Ruddington – or may have captured CCTV footage that could help – you’re asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 to report any village crime – but please do dial 999 without delay if you see a crime in progress.
