Ruddington’s Ready for The Glorious 12th!

Okay. So we’re talking about the 12th of April rather than the 12th of August. Moreover, this month no grouse (grouses? grice? – Ed) will be put in peril. However, Monday is poised to be the glorious day which most residents have been longing for – when Ruddington’s non-essential shops, salons, outdoor hospitality, gyms and certain other establishments can finally reopen after our third ‘lockdown’! After three months of further tight controls to ‘control the Coronavirus’, now the vaccine rollout is well underway across England, the Government ‘roadmap’ has navigated us…

Local Tributes to The Duke

The husband of Queen Elizabeth II since 1947, the Duke of Edinburgh died at Windsor Castle this morning (9th April 2021) just two months before his 100th birthday. He was the longest-serving consort in British history and had only returned to Windsor on March 16th after a month in hospital. You can find further information about his long and eventful life >>HERE<<. Although His Royal Highness came…

Clifton Road to Close Yet Again!

After having already been closed to through-traffic three times this year for roadworks, one of the main access routes in and out of Ruddington will be shut yet again this weekend. Thankfully it’s just for a few hours, therefore it’s less likely to cause disruption for drivers than previous closures – such as the repair and resurfacing work on Clifton Road between Camelot Street and Old Station Drive which took place in January following a burst water main. The latest closure is said to be necessary to complete work started by the same contractors in March to deal…

More Housing on Former Ruddington Green Belt?

Another 32 new homes could be built on former Green Belt land in Ruddington if planning permission is granted to construct them in the grounds of an existing village property. Rather than selling The Croft at 211, Loughborough Road as a large, family home, Lincolnshire based Pygott & Crone Holdings Limited is instead advertising it for the owner as “…8.5 acres of prime residential development (stp), alongside an existing residential dwelling.” It suggests that the current property could be converted into three town houses – for a developer to sell individually – and…

Ruddington’s Parkrun Returns

Excitement is mounting amongst younger children from our village (and beyond) that Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun will be back from Sunday April 11th at 9.00am! The usually weekly event in Ruddington’s Country Park has been cancelled for just over a year due to the Coronavirus pandemic – which, of course, led to Government restrictions on large gatherings. However, the green light has just been given to restart Parkrun for four to ten year-olds. With exactly one week to go, volunteer organisers have been checking the kit, putting up information posters and…

Cars Vandalised at Elms Park

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward after a number of cars were deliberately damaged outside properties along Elms Park. Furious home owners on the Ruddington estate found long scratch marks had appeared on their vehicles yesterday {1st April}. They appear to have been made wilfully using a key or other sharp instrument. Village photographer Paul Witney, who took the photographs above and below, says: “There must be £1000’s worth of damage – at least eight cars on the road have been done!” Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info they…

Post Office Closure

The Easter break will be slightly longer than usual for one of our village traders.  Ruddington Post Office at 4, High Street will be shut from 5.30pm today (Thursday April 1st) until 9.00am on Tuesday. Owner Nikki Wright explains: “This weekend we are closed temporarily for some building work which we are having done. This will make our working environment easier”. Nikki and her team took over the running of the Post Office and shop last November after the Patels decided to sell their successful business. They have remained open as an…

Easter in Ruddington

Whilst this week’s further easing of Coronavirus restrictions doesn’t yet allow for the reopening of Ruddington’s hospitality venues – or even non-essential retailers – it does mean the true meaning of Easter can be celebrated ‘face to face’ (albeit ‘socially distanced’) at our village churches this year. Minister of Ruddington Methodist Church, Revd Nichola Jones, tells us the traditional building of the ‘Easter Cross’ of flowers in front of their building (pictured above) will be taking place this Saturday (3rd April): “Any gifts of flowers are warmly welcomed from 10am…
