Post Office Closure

The Easter break will be slightly longer than usual for one of our village traders.  Ruddington Post Office at 4, High Street will be shut from 5.30pm today (Thursday April 1st) until 9.00am on Tuesday. Owner Nikki Wright explains: “This weekend we are closed temporarily for some building work which we are having done. This will make our working environment easier”. Nikki and her team took over the running of the Post Office and shop last November after the Patels decided to sell their successful business. They have remained open as an…

New People at the Post Office

There’ll be some more fresh faces on High Street this week when a new owner takes over at Ruddington Post Office. It’s almost a year since RUDDINGTON.info revealed the Patels had decided to put their successful business up for sale. However, rather a lot has happened in the world since then which is continuing to have a significant impact on ‘normal’ village life and that of its traders. This essential shop has continued to serve residents during now two COVID-19 ‘lockdowns’ during 2020 – and Nikki Wright and her team…

Who’s Open Again in Ruddington?

This week sees another milestone in the UK Government’s easing of COVID-19 Coronavirus restrictions – with non-essential shops added to the list of businesses allowed to reopen, provided they can implement stringent new hygiene and 2 metre ‘social distancing’ requirements to protect customers and staff. Of course, as we’ve been reporting over almost three months via our regularly updated RUDDINGTON.info COVID-19 Traders checklist, many of our ‘essential’ village shops have done residents proud by managing to remain open and trade safely right through the pandemic – including our Co-op and Sainsbury’s supermarkets,…

Post Office Remains Open for Key Services

Ruddington Post Office will continue to open – on weekday mornings – to help out residents and businesses still requiring its main services during the current COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement that all high street shops selling non-essential goods must stop trading straight away, as part of the Government’s fight to contain the virus, initially the business had decided to close as well – “to help the lockdown” – with essential services being offered only by appointment. However, postmaster Soham Patel tells us: “We have decided to slightly change our arrangement to accommodate…

The Changing Face of Our High Street

Ruddington’s historic village centre is currently undergoing some of the biggest remodelling in decades – with two major demolition and reconstruction projects now underway at either side of High Street. It’s hoped short term pain will lead to long term gain by enabling new businesses to trade from brand new purpose-built premises on the sites of both the former Thomas’s Greengrocers storage building and the old Barclay & Cook Convenience Store. Meantime there are changes underway at some of our existing High Street shops, too. Sadly one of these is the…

Save Our Countryside!

In the wake of at least 525 new houses being approved on large chunks of our village Green Belt earlier this month, Ruddington Green Party is calling for anyone who cares about our countryside to sign a national petition to ‘Cease all new developments on Green Belt and greenfield sites across the country’. They say it’s “…a small way to respond the the encroachment and environmental damage which is being done locally.” Ruddington’s two Labour Borough Councillors – who were the only two members to vote against the approval of Rushcliffe Borough…

Ruddington’s New Post Box

There’s just been a very useful new addition to our High Street – something that’s actually been missing for the past three and a half years. Thanks to Ruddington’s Postmaster Soham Patel, the Post Office now has an external post box again! Anyone who was in the village before February 2016 will remember there was, in fact, a rather magnificent red pillar-box here which got moved to make way for an exterior cashpoint. The new hole-in-the-wall was kindly installed by the Patels to compensate for the loss of TWO former High…
