Pharmacy First for Ruddington

Our village chemists is welcoming today’s announcement that pharmacies in England will now be allowed to prescribe drugs for minor illnesses instead of doctors.  Similar services are already offered in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Trying to book a non-urgent GP appointment at Ruddington Medical Centre or Church House Surgery nowadays can often mean a wait of weeks, rather than days.  Evans Pharmacy is confirming this new ‘Pharmacy First’ service will be available at its Charles Street branch. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said this morning: “You’re going to be able to get treatments…

Ruddington’s pharmacy has announced it is offering COVID-19 jabs for 12 to 15 year olds from today (Saturday 19th February). COVID-19 Jabs Reach Ruddington!

Whilst it’s over a year since the first COVID-19 vaccinations started to be rolled out in England, village residents have been forced to travel further afield to get our jabs – until now! The good news is that the first ever vaccinations against the Coronavirus to be administered here in Ruddington were given to patients at Ruddington Medical Centre just before Christmas.  Better still, regular opportunities will begin this week at Evans Pharmacy – meaning most villagers won’t need to head off to larger vaccination centres or other pharmacies to receive…

Now It’s Flu Jab Time

Throughout 2021 it’s hardly surprising that all the emphasis has been on getting us vaccinated against COVID-19. That initiative is continuing apace – with children over 12 the next in line to be offered protection against the Coronavirus, along with ‘booster’ jabs for all adults aged 50 plus. However, health professionals are warning that flu is also likely to be a big problem this winter, so now is the time for older and more vulnerable Ruddington residents to be thinking about that, too. According to modelling, the 2021 to 2022 influenza season in the…

Therefore, if you’d like to reassure yourself you have not picked up COVID-19 which you could inadvertently pass on to others, you can now collect a FREE kit from Evans Pharmacy on Charles Street*. This ‘lateral flow test’…

COVID-19 Vaccine Letters Are on Their Way!

Elderly village residents and their carers are being urged to wait until they receive their notification from the NHS, rather than contacting Ruddington GPs or hospitals, or using web links shared by others to try to get an appointment earlier. The appeal follows a report in some local media yesterday suggesting that anyone over 80 can now simply go online to book an appointment for their Coronavirus jab. In fact, the dedicated new web portal, shared elsewhere, is intended for use only by those who have already received a letter to…

Who’s Open Again in Ruddington?

This week sees another milestone in the UK Government’s easing of COVID-19 Coronavirus restrictions – with non-essential shops added to the list of businesses allowed to reopen, provided they can implement stringent new hygiene and 2 metre ‘social distancing’ requirements to protect customers and staff. Of course, as we’ve been reporting over almost three months via our regularly updated RUDDINGTON.info COVID-19 Traders checklist, many of our ‘essential’ village shops have done residents proud by managing to remain open and trade safely right through the pandemic – including our Co-op and Sainsbury’s supermarkets,…
