Good News for Ruddington Recyclers?

If you’re trying to reduce the amount of landfill you generate on our increasingly polluted and wasteful planet, you may be pleased to hear of a new trial taking place at Nottinghamshire recycling centres. Juice cartons and Tetra Paks cannot be placed into Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘blue’ bins and so villagers have to travel elsewhere to recycle them – otherwise just throw them away with the rest of our household waste. Existing carton recycling sites in Rushcliffe, nearest to Ruddington, include Asda at West Bridgford, Morrisons at Gamston and Bridgford Road…

Charity Shop Will Not Reopen

It’s been confirmed that Ruddington’s newest charity shop – which only opened its doors in March 2018 before being forced to cease trading due to the pandemic – will remain shut permanently. The Children’s Society Shop at the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street had only been up-and-running for two years when the first Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ happened – shutting it “temporarily” – however it hasn’t traded again since. As previously reported, the manager Stephanie Reed was subsequently redeployed to look after the Arnold shop – leaving our village branch facing…

COVID-19 Outbreak Hits Ruddington Schools

The head teachers of both our village schools have confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been detected among their pupils. After a positive COVID-19 test result last week from a Year 4 student from St Peter’s Junior School on Ashworth Avenue, seventeen others from the same year group have also since tested positive for the virus, including a member of staff. Incinerator Plans Approved

In August last year, RUDDINGTON.info reported on a village-led campaign to “Stop the Incinerator” which was being proposed for the site of the soon-to-be decommissioned Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station. It followed an application submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) in July 2020 by Uniper UK Limited for the development of ‘The East Midlands Energy Re-Generation’ (EMERGE) Centre – which it described as a ‘multifuel energy recovery facility – to recover energy from waste material’. This proposal meant environmental campaigners’ initial joy – that a coal fired power plant now so little used by The National Grid was to be…

Big Increase in Fly-Tipping Fines

A Ruddington nature reserve is one of the recent sites blighted by fly-tippers which has led to a fine being served against the offenders. The contents of this illegal dump in the entrance to Wilwell Farm Cutting on Wilford Road (pictured above) were sufficient for investigators to trace their source and so identify the culprits. Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) reports that its action on rogue fly-tippers has increased hugely in Rushcliffe since the beginning of 2021 – with over 70 fixed penalty notices given out to those found blighting local spots…

May The Force Be With You

Following an initial rise in reported crime in Ruddington when the strictest ‘lockdown’ measures were eased on April 12th, the month of May saw a welcome drop again, according to Rushcliffe Police. Statistics just released show there were only ten incidents recorded by officers for Ruddington during the whole of last month – none of which was serious. This is despite a spate of thefts of Ford Transits using a skeleton key in other parts of the force’s area – prompting a warning to owners to consider buying additional security to…
