Eight Day Road Closure Warning

As predicted, the patience of Ruddington’s long-suffering motorists and public transport users has been tested yet again in the past few weeks. The considerably overdue junction layout improvements at the Kirk Lane/Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane traffic lights are now fully underway and causing major peak-time hold-ups, with buses often being re-routed as a result*. These works, to add extra turning lanes there, started in July, with preparatory work by National Grid. The package of agreed improvements is now continuing with water main pipe replacement work by Severn Trent starting last month and scheduled to continue until Friday 19th January 2024, with…

Is it Now Cheaper to Buy or Rent a Property?

This year the UK economy has hit some challenges; energy costs, high inflation, plus much more. With this, house prices have changed and so have mortgage payments writes Ruddington’s Benwell Daykin Estate Agents. The latest figures from Nationwide state that house prices have fallen at their fastest rate in August since 2009. Although this sounds like doom and gloom, the average house price back then was £162,112 compared to today’s price of £286,000. This means that anyone looking to move should still turn a tidy profit. Although this probably isn’t…

A Feast of Free Trees!

For the past six years, Ruddington residents have been offered the chance to make our properties greener by applying for ‘free trees’ from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Over 10,000 trees have been distributed since the start of this campaign in 2018. In previous years the authority has given villagers an option of TWO trees to apply for. For 2023 the choice has been doubled to FOUR possible alternatives. However, due to the previous high demand, we’re now only being offered ONE free tree per household. This year, a further one…

Conservation Area Housing Approved

Plans to demolish derelict outbuildings and create flats behind Ruddington’s old butcher’s shop have been passed by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). As we reported in February, the (then) empty premises and land behind it were bought last year by village entrepreneur Brian Perkins (of ‘Victoria Properties’) who is already the owner/landlord of several of Ruddington’s other shops. His company was responsible for the concept and construction of the adjacent ‘Courtyard’ precinct, off High Street, completed in September 2020. His newly approved redevelopment to the rear of the existing retail unit at 15, Church Street…
