Eight Day Road Closure Warning

As predicted, the patience of Ruddington’s long-suffering motorists and public transport users has been tested yet again in the past few weeks. The considerably overdue junction layout improvements at the Kirk Lane/Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane traffic lights are now fully underway and causing major peak-time hold-ups, with buses often being re-routed as a result*.

These works, to add extra turning lanes there, started in July, with preparatory work by National Grid. The package of agreed improvements is now continuing with water main pipe replacement work by Severn Trent starting last month and scheduled to continue until Friday 19th January 2024, with 24-hour multi-way temporary traffic lights controlling traffic for much of this time. This is in addition to further, concurrent work at the junction by National Grid from 7th to 15th September and 12th to 15th September 2023 with more contractors still to be booked up until the estimated “end date” of 31st March 2024.

Layout changes to the busy junction

From this Monday, 4th September, residents to the north east of Ruddington are the next to be disrupted, for eight days, due to the closure of Landmere Lane between Old Loughborough Road and the A52 access. No waiting, loading or unloading restrictions will be in force, restricting access to Old Road and Wayte Court alongside diversions via the A52 Clifton Boulevard, A60 Loughborough Road, Old Loughborough Road and vice-versa (see top map). It’s for large scale road patching works by Nottinghamshire County Council.**

As if both of the above aren’t frustrating enough, another of Ruddington’s busiest roads will see the return of temporary traffic lights this autumn for major gas work***. Cadent is to carry out essential maintenance on Wilford Road to finally replace the troublesome old iron gas main under ‘Dutton’s Hill’ with a “more durable” plastic pipe – which will apparently take a whole month to complete! Between 16th October and 13th November, further delays through our village at peak times are inevitable.
