Elite Ruddington Cyclist Prepares for ‘The Tour of Britain’

It’s now just one more month before the UK’s leading cycling event heads back to Nottinghamshire and passes right through the centre of Ruddington. As in 2018, on Thursday September 8th villagers will again be able to line our streets to enjoy the spectacle of over one hundred of the world’s best riders competing near the start of Stage Five of The ‘Tour of Britain’  – as it wends its way 116.2 miles from West Bridgford to Mansfield that day. Hoping to be among those elite cyclists is Ruddington’s very…

On The Verge of Paradise

Ruddingtonians who have a reason to walk via the private, gravel road between Clifton Road and Fairham Close will almost certainly have spotted a slightly odd L-shaped patch of previously overgrown land on the corner, just outside the western gates of ‘Paradise Gardens’ Allotments. Its custodians are Ruddington Parish Council, which also owns and manages the allotments but, due to a restrictive covenant, has found it quite difficult to know what to actually ‘do’ with this relatively small, extra ‘green’ area.  A fence erected recently was removed hastily when it…

Where’s Ruddington’s Royal Oak Gone!?

So many concerned villagers have been contacting RUDDINGTON.info over the past fortnight, asking this question, we thought we’d better publish a quick update for you. As previously reported, Ruddington’s new ‘Royal Oak’ tree was kindly donated by villager Barbara Breakwell for Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) to plant on The Green during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. There was fanfare, ceremony and much interest as Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards was invited to do the tree planting on June Village Market day – alongside an attractive, stone-mounted plaque, already in situ. However, shortly…

New Dwelling Declined

Plans to erect a contemporary, new home in Ruddington’s conservation area, right alongside The Green, have been rejected by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). The application [22/00485/FUL] by Building Design (Nottm) Ltd would have seen the demolition of the garage belonging to 6, The Green (‘The White House’) to make way for a modern two storey house (plus attic room) to be built ‘next door’ over the current garden – filling the “gap” seen in the photograph above. You can find further details >>HERE<<. The two reasons RBC gives for rejecting these plans are:- “The…

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

A Royal Oak Tree, which has been growing in the garden of a former Ruddington Parish Councillor for a decade, has now taken pride of place on our village green; whilst one of Ruddington’s biggest employers has added a new Hornbeam Tree in its grounds at Ruddington Hall. These new trees (pictured above) are just the latest additions to ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ in Ruddington to celebrate Her Majesty’s seventy years on the throne – with the former being planted by MP for Rushcliffe Ruth Edwards during the ‘Platinum Jubilee…

This was after the previous incumbents Cllr Allen Wood and Cllr Ken Piggott decided to stand down. The duo were thanked for their “continuous work and dedication…
