Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

Christmas & New Year Buses

Ruddington’s main public transport operator has announced its expected levels of service over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Nottingham City Transport (NCT) says these are based on current Government restrictions, guidance and funding, so they may be revised if there is a change to any of these in the meantime. The only days Ruddington will see no buses at all are Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. A Saturday service will run on the Navy 3 and Green 10 during most weekdays with a special daytime Boxing Day timetable planned for…

Museum’s ‘Victorian Life Swap’

Back in July we reported how Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum had reopened with a more personal and ‘socially distanced’ visitor experience – having been shut for four months due to first COVID-19 ‘lockdown’. With full Coronavirus restrictions sadly now back on, once again the doors are firmly closed to the public until at least December 2nd. However, with spare time on their hands once more, staff at the popular village visitor attraction began to wonder what life must have been like without many of the things we take for granted. How…

New People at the Post Office

There’ll be some more fresh faces on High Street this week when a new owner takes over at Ruddington Post Office. However, rather a lot has happened in the world since then which is continuing to have a significant impact on ‘normal’ village life and that of its traders. COVID Safety Concerns at Country Park

As we enter the second week of the new national Coronavirus ‘lockdown’, concerns are being expressed by users of Rushcliffe Country Park that ‘social distancing’ and other COVID-safe guidelines are not being followed. It follows reports of crowds flocking there last weekend just as if it was ‘business as usual’. One park user, calling himself DT, tweeted: “Nobody is isolating. Went for a walk at Ruddington park yesterday. Must have been at least 300 people on the park. 2 burger vans and a ice cream truck in full operation. No chance…

What’s Happening with the Butchers?

It’s now two and a half months since we said ‘goodbye to Shane’ at 15, Church Street – and that RUDDINGTON.info revealed that Elms Farm of Costock would soon be moving into Ruddington’s historic butchers’ premises.  So what’s going on?! Well, we’re very pleased to report that Elms Farm, run by the Brown family since 1951, is most definitely still opening a butcher’s shop in Ruddington very soon – but in a different location: “The existing shop had been our first choice due to the history behind it” says Jenny Brown.…

Village Crime Hiatus is Over

You may be pleased to hear that, just prior to the new ‘lockdown’, Ruddington enjoyed one of its ‘quietest’ months in recent history when it comes to recorded crime. After 23 incidents were reported to Rushcliffe Police during September, during all of October only 6 crimes in our village came to the attention of its officers – a drop of 74%. None of these offences was anything too major, either, as can be seen below, although another unwelcome incidence of vehicle damage on Cumberland Close was among them:- 4th Oct …

‘Lockdown’ Library Arrangements

In line with the UK Government’s new national COVID-19 rules, it’s been confirmed Ruddington Library will not be opening during the new ‘lockdown’. As it stands, this means its doors will remain closed to villagers this Friday (November 6th), and on future Tuesdays and Fridays when it should have been open, through until Tuesday December 1st. It’s possible this closure may last even longer if current Coronavirus restrictions are extended, or if they are followed by tougher, local restrictions in Rushcliffe. First time around, the Church Street library was shut…
