Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

Community Centre Consultation

It’s almost a year since Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) announced it had completed the purchase of the former Youth & Community Centre site on The Green from Nottinghamshire County Council for use by our whole village community in the future. It has lain empty and disused since December 2016, with the main building having to be boarded up in 2018 (top) following repeated acts of vandalism. After lengthy negotiations, RPC Chairman Allen Wood finally received the keys from County Councillor Reg Adair eleven months’ ago amid great celebration and anticipation. He commented…

More Double-Yellows For Ruddington?

Residents along Asher Lane without off-street parking will soon have fewer options for their vehicles if plans for new ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions go ahead. In fact, the proposals to put double-yellow lines along much of the narrow road, and also at its junctions with Distillery Street, Top Road and Musters Road, will come as no surprise to those who’ve battled long and hard against the new 175 home development there. That’s because they are to formally fulfil one of the planning conditions for the controversial Green Belt…

New Ruddington Car Park To Open Soon

Ruddington’s first ever multi-storey car park is taking shape – with construction of the eco-friendly, four floor facility along Mere Way now well underway. The new car park is being built for HR and payroll software and services firm MHR by regional construction firm Stepnell. Although it is for employee use only, plans to increase the workforce there to 700 people mean more parking space is now needed. The extension of no parking restrictions around Ruddington Fields Business Park last year by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) has only exacerbated this situation. Planning approval was…

For decades the thorny issue of parking in Ruddington has been rumbling on – with various suggestions over the years as to how it might be addressed. We have an ever increasing number of homes and therefore cars in our village. Many of these new properties are at quite a distance away from the historic village centre, which some residents will not consider walkable. Consequently the number of motorists trying to find spaces to park and shop (or use other services here) is at an all time high. The introduction…
