With spring very much in the air, and plants starting to come back to life, a community project in our village, which began during the first Coronavirus lockdown, is now out of ‘hibernation’ for the growing season ahead. The idea of Edible Ruddington was mooted just a year ago by a group of green fingered residents who found themselves with plenty of time to spend out and about in our lovely village. One of them, Gwen Eyre, explains: “We saw first-hand how beneficial nature and watching plants grow can be for…

Number 2 High Street has been at the heart of Ruddington since way back. With an end to the COVID-19 pandemic finally in sight, Ruddington parents will be hoping this Monday’s return to classes for their children will be a permanent and irreversible one. It’s certainly been an unprecedented last twelve months. All but vulnerable youngsters and those of key workers were first sent home almost a year ago – on March 20th 2020 – when the Coronavirus originally took hold in Britain. They were not able to go back into school until June, with strict COVIDsafe measures first being put in place. Even…

One of our village’s main tourist attractions has announced it will begin to re-open some areas of its Mere Way site just after the Easter holidays. Although this means Ruddington kids will miss out on the Easter Bunny for a second year running – having also been deprived of a festive train trip with Santa – at least we can now see a light at the end of the (metaphorical) tunnel. Heritage services last ran at Great Central Railway (Nottingham) during the February half-term last year before all trains were cancelled and…

Since discovering the bad news online yesterday, or receiving their letters today, parents across Ruddington have been taking to social media in dismay. For many, their son or daughter will have to journey twelve miles to South Wolds Academy in Keyworth and back every day, rather than the expected six mile round trip to Rushcliffe…
