Our ‘Outstanding’ New School

Staff, pupils and parents at a new Ruddington school, which only opened its doors just over a year ago, are celebrating the highest possible ratings following its first Ofsted inspection. Operated by Polaris Children’s Services at 165, Loughborough Road (formerly known as ‘Easthorpe House’ and the home of NHS Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group up until June 2020), the Grade 2 listed building has been sympathetically modified to create ‘Easthorpe School’ – which is specifically for pupils aged 7 to 16 with special educational needs. Two Ofsted inspectors visited its premises from November 14th to 16th…

The failure of last minute talks yesterday between the Government and the National Education Union (NEU) to try avert this week’s strike action over teachers’ pay means most pupils at one of our Ruddington schools won’t be in class tomorrow (Wednesday 1st February). In a letter to parents and carers, Headteacher Hannah Cutts writes: “I’m sorry to inform you that James Peacock Infant and Nursery School will be closed on Wednesday 1st February 2023. It’s certainly been an unprecedented last twelve months. All but vulnerable youngsters and those of key workers were first sent home almost a year ago – on March 20th 2020 – when the Coronavirus originally took hold in Britain. They were not able to go back into school until June, with strict COVIDsafe measures first being put in place. Even…

Ruddington Schools’ Gradual Return

After Boris Johnson announced that, from June 1st 2020, primary and junior schools in England could reopen for Reception and Year 1, plus Year 6, both our Ruddington schools decided they were not yet ready to do so. Parents of pupils at St Peter’s C of E Junior School only learned this news for certain on the evening of Friday 29th May, when an apologetic email from school Head Teacher, Michael Bradley, informed them: “Unfortunately we now have no choice but to pause our plans to welcome back our Year…
