Welcome Boost to Coffee Club’s Coffers

A weekly, Ruddington coffee club which helps to reduce loneliness and social isolation amongst over 55s, has received support from a ‘Reach Rushcliffe’ grant, enabling the group to grow and flourish. Older villagers are invited to meet new people and enjoy refreshments in a relaxed and friendly setting at the ‘Wednesday Morning Coffee Club’ in St Peter’s Rooms – which also provides a warm space to vulnerable residents in a safe environment. It takes place every week between 10am and midday and anyone aged 55 and above is welcome to walk in…

Over eighteen months after plans were revealed to add further houses to a current Ruddington development, permission to expand it onto additional land which was also previously part of our village Green Belt has been granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Subject to conditions and an additional ‘Section 106’ agreement, two dozen more houses will now be constructed alongside the 185 already being built by William Davis Homes at ‘Lace Fields’ on former agricultural land opposite Mere Way. This is despite only 170 dwellings originally being approved on this site in the Rushcliffe Local Plan…

Ruddington’s Fight Against Food Waste

Representatives from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) have been in Ruddington today to see at first hand the impressive progress made by a village initiative launched last Easter with the primary aim of reducing food waste in our community. Since then, project founders Carol Jaggers, Gwen Eyre and their volunteers have been opening the doors of ‘The Ruddington Pantry’ twice a week to hand out good quality, surplus food, free of charge from local food retailers (especially Ruddington Co-op) plus village gardeners and restaurants. Residents have also been encouraged to donate to the…

For well over twenty years St Peter’s Care Home, Orchard House, and Balmore Country House {pictured L to R above} have been providing care and support to the people of Ruddington and its surrounding area. Together they form part of the Ruddington Retirement Village, managed, and operated by the My Care group, and along with the brand new Ruddington Retirement Apartments, constructed in 2022, provide an invaluable care resource for local people. Ruddington’s ‘Heat ‘n’ Eat’ to Get Bigger in 2023

It’s been confirmed a Ruddington community venture which started over the summer, offering a chef-prepared, two-course lunch for just £1, will continue into next year – and also increase the number of diners it can accommodate. The twice monthly ‘Heat ‘n’ Eat’ meals, comprising good quality and wholesome, hot food, began at the end of June 2022. They are served-up in the peaceful and welcoming surroundings of St Peter’s Church. As the bitter winter weather bites, the venue has also become one of the ‘Warm Spaces’ in Ruddington where villagers struggling to heat…

Country Park Transformation in Full Swing with Help from Artex

Artex colleagues dusted off their wellies earlier this month to plant 400 hedges and trees donated by the Ruddington based business to Rushcliffe Country Park. The hedgerows were planted in the park’s new outdoor seating area which has been developed into a large, open and shaded area with views of the lake and easy access to the car park, visitor centre, toilets and café. The hedgerows will act as a screen from the car park and road and will add shade in the summer as well as improving air quality…

Ruddington’s Little Library

You may already have spotted Ruddington’s ‘Little Free Library’ if you’ve headed along St Mary’s Crescent recently, without actually realising what this smart little wooden cupboard is all about, or what’s in it.  Of course, a closer inspection reveals the answer is books –…

‘Warm Welcome Spaces’ Agreed in Ruddington

Last month we reported how St Peter’s Church and Ruddington Parish Council were launching a village initiative to help those here who may struggle to both feed their families and heat their homes this winter. Whilst, thankfully, the Chancellor’s ‘Autumn Statement’ this week has left the current UK energy price caps in place throughout the coldest part of the year, already soaring gas and electricity costs are presenting a challenge for many in Ruddington. That’s why a public ‘Open Meeting’ was held in St Peter’s on October 18th 2022. Church member…
