A Feast of Free Trees!

For the past six years, Ruddington residents have been offered the chance to make our properties greener by applying for ‘free trees’ from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Over 10,000 trees have been distributed since the start of this campaign in 2018. In previous years the authority has given villagers an option of TWO trees to apply for. After successfully trialling the idea a couple of months’ ago, organisers of a new initiative in Ruddington for people living with memory loss (and their carers) is set to be held here every two months. Creating A Warm Welcome At Lace Fields

Nottinghamshire mum Lindsey Taylor is helping to build a welcoming community at William Davis Homes’ Lace Fields development here in Ruddington. Lindsey has set-up a popular Lace Fields Facebook group for neighbours there to get to know each other and share information, such as trusted local traders and favourite eateries. This week marks another major milestone for 1st Ruddington Scouts – as the they celebrate their 80th birthday. The group actually came into existence during World War II – launching on 12th July 1943. Since then, as Ruddington’s population has grown, its membership has gone up substantially – with three Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops, numbering over 130 young people in all. Staff at our village library are inviting residents and other users to mark a special milestone with them this week – the 60th anniversary of its opening. Although never the prettiest building in Ruddington’s ‘Conservation Area’, the Church Street lending library has been serving bookworms and the wider community here since July 1963 – and most of us have become oblivious to its uninspired and dated appearance by now. ‘Fun Fest’ Raises Thousands for Ruddington Kids

Organisers of the summer fundraiser at Ruddington’s Infant & Nursery School are celebrating its success after more than doubling last year’s total; making it their most successful event to date. The ‘Green Memory Café’ is being launched at Rushcliffe Country Park on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st June in the newly refurbished Visitor Centre by the lake. Framework Knitters Ready for the Summer!

Volunteers and staff at Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum are once again showing visitors the delights of their unique heritage site, following the completion of refurbishment work there costing £62,295. The funds for the work were awarded through the Arts Council of England’s Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND). MEND is an open-access capital fund, which is designed to help museums and local authorities undertake infrastructure and urgent maintenance that are beyond the scope of day-to-day maintenance budgets.
