Ruddington is quite fortunate to have a number of places where slightly more unusual wildlife can be found – with volunteers such as those from The South Notts Local Group of the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust helping it to survive and thrive. 174 Homes Proposed for Flood Prone Green Belt

A full planning application to build 174 new homes on agricultural land west of Wilford Road in Ruddington has now been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). When the Rushcliffe Local Plan Part 1: Core Strategy was adopted back in December 2014 things didn’t look too bad for Ruddington. Identified infill sites for new homes here, along with some available “brownfield” areas, meant that our village would be required to accommodate just 250 further homes on its precious Green Belt. Ruddington is soon to have its own very distinctive, feathered mascot – after ‘Ruddy Duck’ was given the go ahead at the full meeting of Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) last night (14th May). The airborne ambassador was proposed by RPC’s Events Sub-Committee to ‘engender a sense of fun’ around our village at forthcoming events such as its Summer and Christmas Fayres, the Great Get Together, Kite Festival, and more. Ruddington Swings To Labour

In an election outcome which may surprise many Ruddingtonians, Labour has stolen two out of the three available seats on Rushcliffe Borough Council from the Conservatives. The results from yesterday’s poll mean that Labour candidates Jen Walker and Mike Gaunt (pictured above left and centre) are duly elected to the Council for the first time – with third placed Gary Dickman (pictured right) securing the remaining seat for the Conservatives. It seems the antisocial and criminal behaviour of a minority will once again impact our wider community after it prompted a decision by landowners to close and secure access gates to premises which had been left open for villagers’ and visitors’ convenience for almost two decades. Ruddington Mums Support ‘Great British Spring Clean’

After an appeal by Rushcliffe Borough Council, a popular Ruddington Facebook group, which offers information and advice for village parents, has pledged to join in with this year’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’. The campaign, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, aims to further clean up streets, parks and beaches across our country – between now and April 23rd – and expects to see around half a million people taking action in the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. Spring Mindfulness in Ruddington

Ruddington mindfulness teacher Jakki Pritchard is set to run a Spring Mindfulness FREE ‘taster session’ followed by another eight week course in the Old Chapel at the Framework Knitters’ Museum. She started running her ‘Exercise Mindfulness’ sessions in our village in 2017 year to give locals easy access to what she describes as “an enlightening and life enhancing way to manage our own health and wellbeing”.
