Ruddington Trio’s Fundraising Fortnight

This weekend, three employees from a Ruddington firm are beginning the challenge of walking the Pennine Way in just 14 days – in aid of a local children’s hospice. The trio, who all work at Quotient Sciences on Mere Way, are taking on the 268 mile trek to raise money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in Loughborough. Adam Ball (26), Tom Gailey (28) and Ben Foster (29), who all began working for the company in January 2018, are pictured (top) just before setting off from there today to start…

Good News for Ruddington Recyclers?

If you’re trying to reduce the amount of landfill you generate on our increasingly polluted and wasteful planet, you may be pleased to hear of a new trial taking place at Nottinghamshire recycling centres. Juice cartons and Tetra Paks cannot be placed into Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘blue’ bins and so villagers have to travel elsewhere to recycle them – otherwise just throw them away with the rest of our household waste. Existing carton recycling sites in Rushcliffe, nearest to Ruddington, include Asda at West Bridgford, Morrisons at Gamston and Bridgford Road…

Charity Shop Will Not Reopen

It’s been confirmed that Ruddington’s newest charity shop – which only opened its doors in March 2018 before being forced to cease trading due to the pandemic – will remain shut permanently. The Children’s Society Shop at the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street had only been up-and-running for two years when the first Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ happened – shutting it “temporarily” – however it hasn’t traded again since. As previously reported, the manager Stephanie Reed was subsequently redeployed to look after the Arnold shop – leaving our village branch facing…

Yet More Green Belt Homes?

A planning application has been received by Rushcliffe Borough Council to expand one of the current housing developments into further land which was previously part of Ruddington’s Green Belt. Since then, tweaks during the detailed application stages have seen the property developer get permission to increase the density of its housing there to accommodate 185 new homes.…

COVID-19 Outbreak Hits Ruddington Schools

The head teachers of both our village schools have confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been detected among their pupils. After a positive COVID-19 test result last week from a Year 4 student from St Peter’s Junior School on Ashworth Avenue, seventeen others from the same year group have also since tested positive for the virus, including a member of staff. Incinerator Plans Approved

In August last year, RUDDINGTON.info reported on a village-led campaign to “Stop the Incinerator” which was being proposed for the site of the soon-to-be decommissioned Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station. It followed an application submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) in July 2020 by Uniper UK Limited for the development of ‘The East Midlands Energy Re-Generation’ (EMERGE) Centre – which it described as a ‘multifuel energy recovery facility – to recover energy from waste material’. This proposal meant environmental campaigners’ initial joy – that a coal fired power plant now so little used by The National Grid was to be…

Road Closures in our Village

Residents are being warned to prepare themselves for further disruption over the next couple of weeks as two roads in Ruddington village centre are closed for roadworks – with diversions for motorists and public transport put in force. These are on High Street and Parkyns Street – with full details below. However, that’s only the START of it… This latest work is in addition to the over-running highway reconstruction on Loughborough at the Mere Way Roundabout to create a suitable access for the new William Davis Homes development – which will not now be…

Big Increase in Fly-Tipping Fines

A Ruddington nature reserve is one of the recent sites blighted by fly-tippers which has led to a fine being served against the offenders. The contents of this illegal dump in the entrance to Wilwell Farm Cutting on Wilford Road (pictured above) were sufficient for investigators to trace their source and so identify the culprits. Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) reports that its action on rogue fly-tippers has increased hugely in Rushcliffe since the beginning of 2021 – with over 70 fixed penalty notices given out to those found blighting local spots…
