Rushcliffe Police are warning residents that several motor vehicles in our village were targeted by a thief over the weekend. Officers report: “During the early hours of Sunday (20th January) a number of vehicles were entered across the Ruddington area and items stolen after the suspect had rummaged around. Most missing items appear to be low value – and the cars appear to have been unlocked.” The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 30 years old, of skinny build and wearing a three quarter length puffa jacket and…

Final Preparations for Ruddington’s Village Market
With our brand new Ruddington Village Market now less than a fortnight away, promotional leaflets have begun dropping through local letterboxes this weekend to try to ensure that even our less internet-savvy residents get to hear about it! This exciting, new venture, hosted and co-organised by The White Horse Inn in conjunction with Stella Dickie and her Ruddington Village Centre Partnership “market” team, is intended to become a monthly fixture, so long as this first one on Saturday February 2nd is a success. It’s hoped that it will draw locals back into our…
Read MoreAlleged Fly-Tippers Have Vehicle Seized
Individuals who allegedly fly-tipped fridges on the A52 near Wheatcroft Island have had their vehicle seized by Rushcliffe Borough Council officers and Nottinghamshire Police. It follows several incidences of the items being dumped in the area, leading to the use of CCTV capturing those in the act during December 2018. It’s just been revealed the white van linked to the fly-tipping (pictured top) was confiscated on January 11th on Grant Street in Nottingham. This is the second vehicle to be seized in connection with illegal waste dumping – after a red van…
Read MoreCouncil to “Dispose of” Village Youth Centre
Our former Ruddington Youth and Community Centre has now officially been put up for sale by owners Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC). This substantial building on The Green was most recently a fitness centre run by Project Body UK – the organisation selected by the County Council to take over the running of the former Young People’s Centre in 2014 when spending cuts meant that NCC could no longer afford to run it themselves. After reintroducing youth provision during the summer of 2016, the new tenants found they could not make it pay commercially. It has lain…

William Davis Homes is the latest property developer to show its hand in Ruddington by publishing proposals for around 180 new homes it wants to build on “land off Mere Way”. This is one of the Green Belt sites earmarked in Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Local Plan Part 2 – outlined in red above – which was formerly known as RUD13. Rushcliffe Police have reported a burglary at David Richards Jewellers on Church Street in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 13th January). They say a quantity of jewellery was stolen – reported to be worth thousands of pounds. PCSO Kathy Lucock told us: “A member of the public rang at around 2am after hearing noises and sound of breaking glass. It is thought there were four offenders in a dark grey or silver three door Mercedes-Benz…

On Thursday (10th January 2019) Shade Bridal Boutique opened for business at its new premises on Easthorpe Street. Originally established in February 2011, on Melton Road in West Bridgford, it was the vision of Jessica Beard & Charlotte Jarvie – who wanted “to create an experience that was as memorable as a bride’s wedding dress.” Emma Castle bought the business…

Frustration is growing that the illegal dumping of waste seems to be continuing unabated around our village despite Council and Police efforts to thwart the criminals who’re doing it. It was reported last month that a vehicle belonging to suspected fly-tippers had been seized but further incidents have since followed, including this most recent one. Elissa Hawksworth was again the first to alert us to the latest pile of old fridges and freezers (top photo – courtesy of Paul Witney) which have been dumped at the entrance to NFU Mutual and Barn Farm…

Ruddington is no stranger to new house building in recent times – with considerably more development still to come – but a prominent village plot that’s created a great deal of interest over the past year or so is the site of the former Bostock’s DIY Shop at 70, Wilford Road. The historic business closed in October 2015 after 56 years – when owners Tony and Hazel Theaker retired – and was bought by Ruddington’s Mascari Design Solutions Ltd. New owner Rob and his team then worked with Justin Smith Architects of Derby…

Suspected perpetrators have already been identified for a third of these crimes. The complete statistics for December 2018, listed day by day, were as follows:- 3rd. Clifton Road – Criminal damage…
