Plans Revealed for Fairham Green ‘Phase Two’

Whilst construction continues apace on Bloor Homes’ 167 property ‘Fairham Green’ development, residents in the Grange Farm area have discovered the house-builder is already eyeing up its next Green Belt site further along Wilford Road. Questions were asked when surveyors from Greenhatch Contractors appeared outside ‘Ruddington Day Nursery’ today {Tuesday 16th August} and began taking measurements along that stretch of the B680 into the village. It was discovered they were working on behalf of Bloor Homes – assessing the site access to the current agricultural land between the lane to…

Dutton’s Hill Closed Again

Unfortunately there are several sets of highway works liable to cause inconvenience and delays for Ruddington motorists during July. These include the total closure of Dutton’s Hill again over the next two Sundays for more gas work. Although these ‘Prohibition of Driving’ notices on that section of Wilford Road should not impinge on weekday traffic this time, drivers cutting through the estate to avoid a longer diversionary route are liable to result in further frustration for home owners along St John’s Road and St Mary’s Crescent in particular. Water connection…

Ruddington ‘Wakes’ Funfair

This is an annual, traditional, family event. Ruddington ‘Wakes’ dates back over one hundred years, when the St Peter’s Feast was the start of the school holidays in the village (around the 29th of June). For 2022, the rides and attractions open at 5pm on Wednesday 22nd, Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th and from 2pm on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June. Thankfully this means those attending the funfair should not be impacted by noise, vibration and dust from the Bloor Homes development site on the former Green Belt land…

Ruddington’s Summer Roadworks

Despite the continuing construction of four major new housing developments in Ruddington, no very disruptive roadworks are planned around our village during the summer of 2022 so far. Nevertheless, there are several sets of highway works liable to cause some inconvenience and delays for village motorists over the coming weeks. These include two total closures of Dutton’s Hill this July for more gas work. Although both of these ‘Prohibition of Driving’ notices are scheduled only for Sundays, traffic cutting through the estate to avoid a longer diversionary route is liable to…

What’s Happening at the Old Barbershop?

Last December we reported that Aidy’s Barbers along Wilford Road had ceased trading – bringing to an end decades of gents’ hairdressing on Dutton’s Hill. At the time, 18a Wilford Road was up for sale by online auction following an application by Chris Chawner to change the use of the ground floor to Class E(b) food and drink for a café/restaurant and to create a two bedroomed apartment on the first floor.* Up until now it has been a three bedroomed house plus a ground floor barbers – although the house…

Ruddington Graffiti Artist’s Royal Tribute

A professional graffiti artist in our village is among many who have provided some wonderful extra colour for Ruddington’s celebrations of Her Majesty’s seventy years on the throne. The latest work from ‘Creed’ a.k.a. Ainsley Burton (pictured above with sons Harry and Isaac) can be found on the former changing room block at Sellors’ Playing Field – one of several he has been asked to do there over recent years. Originally the park’s custodians, Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), had proposed to demolish this building after it became a target for vandals and illegal graffiti.…
