The ‘Summer of Cycling’ event takes place on Wednesday August 10th from 11am to 2pm and will include ‘learn to ride’ sessions with British Cycling, bike maintenance and a minor repairs workshop with Dr Bike and a bike marking…

Kids’ Holiday Reading Challenge
With our ‘schools out for summer’, village children aged 4 to 11 are now being invited to get involved with this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ at Ruddington Library. The aim is to read six books or more between now and September 4th. The 2022 Challenge has been developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with The Science Museum Group. Called ‘Gadgeteers’, it is a science-filled reading adventure allowing children to explore the science of the world around them. Through taking part in the Challenge, with a free pack from our library,…
Read MoreThousands Raised During Village Open Gardens
Organisers of this month’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend have revealed the event was a great success – securing almost £4,500 for their two chosen charities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usually biennial was last held in 2018, but it returned even bigger and better on 2nd & 3rd July 2022. Through the weekend people across our village once again allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Jane Piggott says: “The organisers are very…

Unfortunately there are several sets of highway works liable to cause inconvenience and delays for Ruddington motorists during July. These include the total closure of Dutton’s Hill again over the next two Sundays for more gas work. Although these ‘Prohibition of Driving’ notices on that section of Wilford Road should not impinge on weekday traffic this time, drivers cutting through the estate to avoid a longer diversionary route are liable to result in further frustration for home owners along St John’s Road and St Mary’s Crescent in particular. Water connection…

This year’s Makers’ Night is taking place on Friday 24th June from 4pm until 9pm and expands on last September’s event by adding even more village locations to the line-up. It’s organised by the Ruddington Village Market team from Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) with help from the The Framework Knitters’ Museum and the Debbie Bryan Gallery. Makers’ Night 2022 will be showcasing over 70 high quality regional crafters and makers across multiple indoor locations around our village centre, bringing everything from fine art to exquisite jewellery. The main venues this time –…

Despite the continuing construction of four major new housing developments in Ruddington, no very disruptive roadworks are planned around our village during the summer of 2022 so far. Nevertheless, there are several sets of highway works liable to cause some inconvenience and delays for village motorists over the coming weeks. These include two total closures of Dutton’s Hill this July for more gas work. Although both of these ‘Prohibition of Driving’ notices are scheduled only for Sundays, traffic cutting through the estate to avoid a longer diversionary route is liable to…

After all the excitement of Ruddington’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at the beginning of June, there’s another, big weekend event taking place all over our village at the start of next month. On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm on both days, ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ is back for the first time since 2018. It is usually held biennially to raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic, with all the associated restrictions, forced its cancellation in 2020. However, organiser Jane Piggott is pleased…

In additional to its usual, popular, monthly markets on The Green, Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) has announced it’s helping to stage two further events in our village centre this summer. The first is another ‘Makers’ Night’ in June whilst the second is a brand new ‘Street Food Summer Social’* at the end of August. After being disrupted by the pandemic, Ruddington’s annual Makers’ Night is returning to its original summer spot in the calendar. Organised by RVCP’s Market team in partnership with the Framework Knitters’ Museum and the Debbie Bryan Gallery, Makers’…
Read MoreWill YOU Open Your Garden This Summer?
As plans progress for the 2022 ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend, organisers are now seeking villagers who’d be able and willing to open their gardens to others in support of two children’s charities. As before, all proceeds from the event on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Back in the summers of 2016 and 2018 the Open Gardens proved a great success, with an impressive £2280 raised for the two charities. Sadly, COVID-19 put a stop to the biennial event happening in 2020 so it’s hoped…

If you’ve lived in Ruddington for a little while, you may remember ‘Open Gardens’ events being organised in our village? In the summers of 2016 and 2018 these were staged in aid of Save the Children and Action for Children and proved a big hit with villagers and visitors alike. Last time around, an impressive £2280 was raised for the two charities. Sadly, COVID-19 put a stop to the biennial event happening last year. The good news is that it should return NEXT year. One of the organisers, Jane Piggott, says: “For the summer of…
