Kids’ Holiday Reading Challenge

With our ‘schools out for summer’, village children aged 4 to 11 are now being invited to get involved with this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ at Ruddington Library. The aim is to read six books or more between now and September 4th. The 2022 Challenge has been developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with The Science Museum Group. Thousands Raised During Village Open Gardens

Organisers of this month’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend have revealed the event was a great success – securing almost £4,500 for their two chosen charities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usually biennial was last held in 2018, but it returned even bigger and better on 2nd & 3rd July 2022. Through the weekend people across our village once again allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Dutton’s Hill Closed Again

Unfortunately there are several sets of highway works liable to cause inconvenience and delays for Ruddington motorists during July. These include the total closure of Dutton’s Hill again over the next two Sundays for more gas work. Although these ‘Prohibition of Driving’ notices on that section of Wilford Road should not impinge on weekday traffic this time, drivers cutting through the estate to avoid a longer diversionary route are liable to result in further frustration for home owners along St John’s Road and St Mary’s Crescent in particular. Despite the continuing construction of four major new housing developments in Ruddington, no very disruptive roadworks are planned around our village during the summer of 2022 so far. ‘Open Gardens’ Return After Four Year Gap

After all the excitement of Ruddington’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at the beginning of June, there’s another, big weekend event taking place all over our village at the start of next month. On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm on both days, ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ is back for the first time since 2018. In additional to its usual, popular, monthly markets on The Green, Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) has announced it’s helping to stage two further events in our village centre this summer. The first is another ‘Makers’ Night’ in June whilst the second is a brand new ‘Street Food Summer Social’* at the end of August. As plans progress for the 2022 ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend, organisers are now seeking villagers who’d be able and willing to open their gardens to others in support of two children’s charities.
